Getting your metrics wrong leads to spaghetti testing, AKA “throw it at the wall and see what sticks”. Choosing the right primary metric is a foundational aspect of good hypothesis writing. Me and Iqbal Ali get into it in a new episode of the CRO Talks Podcast:
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰? - 𝗖𝗥𝗢 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 - 𝗘𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝟮𝟱 In our latest episode, Matt Beischel and Iqbal Ali dive into the complexities of choosing primary metrics for your experiments. Check out the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/ge2BmHxk Here are some key takeaways: • 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 != 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰: The primary metric is the most important, but not the only one. Guardrail metrics, which protect business-critical aspects, and secondary metrics, which provide context, are essential for a holistic view. • 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆: While conversion rate is crucial, it isn't always the primary metric. Depending on the context, other metrics like user behavior or revenue impact might take precedence. • 𝗗𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: Combining a primary user behavior metric with a primary business benefit metric ensures that changes drive both user engagement and business growth. • 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: The primary metric should be defined within the specific context of the experiment. What works for one test might not apply to another, so flexibility and context are key. • 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: Pay-for-performance models can lead to gaming the system. Instead, focus on metrics that align with long-term business goals rather than short-term wins. #CRO #Metrics #ConversionRateOptimization

”When it comes to driving change, something we do on our team is 'walk the talk' or model the behavior. We’re telling people within the organization to talk to users or do prototyping or work in this kind of way. So when we think about our strategy and how we interact with our users, how are we doing that?” On this episode of #CreativeChange, Lindsay Quinter, #DesignThinking Manager at Eaton's Studio Blue, answers the most important question of #change: How do you get buy-in from skeptical stakeholders? Vision boards, I’ve been seeing them everywhere, far more than new year resolutions it seems. The idea of articulating what I want my life to look like, feel like visually ,appeals especially having something that’s far broader than work focused. I’ve looked at Pinterest, which was totally joyful but decided that I’m going old school with a pinboard . Stationery and I is a love story that never ends. The weekend will involve magazine pictures, central to my aspirations for the year ahead. Has anyone created a vision board, any suggestions on making it work ? The brilliant Advita Patel recommends creating something that you look at everyday day, and being unafraid to remove items that no longer serve your vision. So my plan involves reviewing it with focus on a regular basis. This quote by Pharrel Williams plus my podcast launch ambition is definitely being pinned up. What’s worked for you, if you are a vision board fan ? #AmbitionUnleashed #VisionBoards #GoalSettings #Innovation #Creativity #DesigningTheFuture #RepresentationMatters #Ingenuity
