Harris McCormack Architects’ Post

The way we finish buildings on the exterior is essential for not only practical reasons (to keep buildings dry) but also for aesthetics. In this house in Stamford, Lincolnshire, we used treated timber cladding. The aim of the design was to create a 'floating' pod that doesn't conform to the existing building's form and alignment. The cedar wood has been used as full lengths (from top to bottom) as well as the window reveal linings. When you have a simple facade like this, details are essential – screws, equally spaced and aligned, keep the cladding in position but don't over-dominate. The windows with a darker frame to act as an aperture rather than being seen as a window. #ModernArchitecture #ContemporaryDesign #SustainableArchitecture #ArchitecturalDetails #ExteriorDesign #ArchitecturePhotography30
