As the year comes to a close, Harrisons Electrical, Mechanical & Property Services Ltd reflect on a fantastic year filled with exciting projects, tight deadlines, and valuable lessons to carry into the new year. On a personal note, several members of our team have welcomed new additions to their families, with many becoming parents for the first time. While we take pride in fostering professional growth, seeing our people thrive in their personal lives is even more rewarding as they embrace new chapters in their journey. This year has been marked by key achievements: - We successfully completed our largest single order to date—a 10-month, £6.5M M&E project in Cambridgeshire. - Our building department delivered a major refurbishment project in Bishop's Stortford. - Our team continued their outstanding work in London, contributing to a project at the University of Roehampton, scheduled for completion in 2025. - We also reconnected with long-standing clients, reminding them of our ability to deliver exceptional results within tight timeframes. - Additionally, we formed new partnerships with clients who recognise and value the quality and reliability Harrisons brings to every project. Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be another year full of opportunity and growth. We’re excited to: * Take on a significant electrical project in London for a new client. *Begin a new M&E project in Cambridgeshire with one of our most trusted main contractor clients. * Continue phased refurbishment and new-build works at schools across Bedfordshire. Here’s to another successful year ahead! Thanks to all our staff, engineers, supply chain and clients for a great year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All.

The boom-and-bust cycles of electrical construction will soon be over. The demand for workers will outstrip the current supply of electricians well into the 2030s. Here's what it means for the #IBEW: https://bit.ly/4fWOBuH

The new version of AS1668.2:2024 was recently published in June. So what does that mean for the old AS1668.2:2012? Now redundant? Actually no. Australian Standards are effectively only guidelines, unless called into effect by the NCC. Towards the back of the NCC there is a table of referenced standards which clarifies which version of the document is applicable. So as of NCC2022, AS1668.2:2012 is still in effect. However, you may be able to call on parts of AS1668.2:2024 for your projects via a performance solution if required. * As a mechanical services engineer, AS1668.2 is one of the most relevant standards for our day-to-day design work. AS1668.2-2012: The use of ventilation and airconditioning in buildings, Part 2: Mechanical ventilation in buildings ______ I try to make regular posts on topics relevant to building services mechanical contractors. Construction is actively underway on ANTHC’s Short-term Skilled Nursing Facility on the corner of Elmore Road and Ambassador Drive. The facility will provide patient care at the appropriate level and improve our ability to support acute patient care needs at the hospital. Installation of underground utilities is complete; the permits for footings and foundation and core and shell were received; the value engineering team continues to assist with the maintenance and optimization of the project budget; ICF blocks at the courtyard and north walls were installed; crews are filling in the back wall and excavating on the Phase One section; bracing and backing for the exterior walls were installed; and temporary coverings and spot heating were set up for the winter. Upcoming milestones: A full design package is expected soon. The mechanical and electrical permits will be received in mid-January 2025. The full building permit will be received in February 2025. The footings and foundations will be completed in March 2025. Construction impacts: There should not be direct impacts to departments, although visitors to campus will most likely notice new construction activity. Noise levels will rise in the immediate vicinity due to heavy equipment operation. See the latest construction update here: https://lnkd.in/gXXdEGUV

Key Challenges and EEC's Solutions: Working within the tight Roxbury site required extensive planning and real-time adjustments. Effective site coordination was critical to ensure efficient workflow and prevent disruptions. A robust underground and in-slab duct bank was implemented to route essential feeders to upper floors. This structure was essential for maintaining power integrity and efficiency throughout the building. Team Leadership: Foreman: Jim D. led the charge confidently on-site, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration across teams, keeping the project on track, and upholding safety and quality standards. Project Significance: This project demonstrates our capability to deliver on complex urban construction sites within confined spaces. 🌟 UK Construction Activity in August 2024! 🌟 It's been an interesting quarter for the UK housing sector! In August 2024, project starts and main contract awards saw a positive uptick compared to earlier months. However, there's a bit of a twist with detailed planning approvals, which have actually decreased both from the previous quarter and the same period last year. This month, we've seen a total of £12.15bn in residential work commencing on-site. That's a significant investment, showing that despite the hurdles in planning approvals, there's strong momentum in getting projects off the ground. It's clear that the construction industry is pushing forward and creating opportunities, even when the planning aspect hits a few snags. I recruit for civil and structural engineers and technicians, and this kind of activity is critical for the workforce. Every project start represents new engineering challenges and roles that need to be filled. If you're in the industry, now's the time to engage and look out for fresh opportunities. What are your experiences with project approvals and contract awards recently? Let's discuss! #UKConstruction #HousingMarket #CivilEngineering 🔨🏠📈
