On Friday 21st June HarrisonStevens hosted a Coffee Morning for residents of Gorgie/Dalry, Edinburgh. Those that previously expressed an interest in the proposed Community Garden/Production Garden were invited to share refreshments and cakes/biscuits while discussing the proposed Sauchiebank Community Garden. A Facebook group was started by one of the interested local residents, https://ow.ly/oLvB50SpRJ4 and relationships developed across a broad range of ages and backgrounds. Exciting times, and early in the life of the gardens, lets hope this group can develop and mature as does the space they create. As a group establishes, this will in turn lead to improved health and wellbeing among the local residents. We need to consciously embed gardens and gardening into daily life for everyone. In 2021, the RHS released research that revealed those who garden every day have wellbeing scores 6.6% higher and stress levels 4.2% lower than people who don’t garden at all. Surveying more than 6000 people the research showed a significant association between gardening more frequently and improvements in wellbeing, perceived stress and physical activity. Lets get gardening. #EdinburghCommunity #SauchiebankCommunityGarden #CommunityGardening #UrbanGardening #WellbeingThroughGardening

Imagine you have a small community where only a few people are interested in gardening. Maybe this is what your neighborhood is like today. When you start planting flowers and vegetables in yards and porches, neighbors take notice. They see the beauty and benefits of gardening firsthand, and some of them might decide to give it a try too. As more and more people in the community start gardening, it reaches a tipping point. Suddenly, gardening becomes the norm rather than the exception. People swap seeds, share tips, organize community gardening events, and eat around a table together. The once-small interest in gardening has now transformed into a widespread movement within the community. It’s happening; 55% of households in America are engaged in gardening activities. Just like how small changes can eventually lead to a big shift in society, the individual actions of people planting and tending to their gardens can ultimately lead to a significant cultural change towards regeneration. Never ever underestimate the influence you hold in the way you tend the outdoor spaces around you. You, yes - you, can initiate a new culture of connection to your community, food, land and regeneration when you start a garden. So if you’ve been on the fence about starting a garden, we’re here to support you in gaining a life skill that you can take with you wherever you go. There’s never been a more important time to actively touch and participate in the regenerative movement. Spring is here, y’all and the Garden Club begins Monday, April 8! Gardening offers many benefits: a beautiful space, fresh air, sunshine, and exercise. However, while it reduces fall risks over time, seniors should be cautious as gardening itself may pose fall hazards, especially for those prone to falls. At Home Care Assistance, our Care Professionals use certain techniques to help reduce the risk of falls while gardening. We have put together a guide of some of those techniques that you can use in your own home, or in that of a loved one, to reduce the risk of falls while still enjoying the benefits of gardening. Here's a secret: you don't need a huge terrace to garden - you can green your street! 🏙 🌱 Our cities are full of neglected patches of dirt that could use some love. So if there's one in your street, why not drop a seed? This practice of gardening in abandoned public spaces is known as ‘guerrilla gardening‘ or ‘bewildering‘, and it's a great way to create havens for pollinating insects, foster community, and reduce urban heat. Personally, practicing guerrilla gardening makes me feel like an agent of change in my neighbourhood. It reconnects me to nature, sparks meaningful conversations with neighbours over our shared plants, and allows me to do something I love, regardless of my living space. It can be daunting to get started, but you don't have to do it on your own. At Imagine5 we just released a toolkit with Ellen Miles, walking you through the ins and outs of guerrilla gardening, including videos made by me. Anyone can be a gardener, so grab a trowel and let's dig in together! 🦋 https://lnkd.in/edjxM2Am

Helping women get gardening every day as the antidote to burnout | Gardening & floristry for wellbeing expert, late-diagnosed ADHD, coach, writer and speaker
Here's why you need a gardening coach Lets be honest, the information you need to learn to garden is all out there on the internet. But what you can't google is 'how do I garden’ 'how do I make it work for me and my very busy life'. A gardening coach will help you to work this out, to believe in yourself. They'll help you to work out what is stopping you from getting in the garden and what beliefs are holding you back from moving forward with your garden and taking more time for you to quiet your mind. They'll help you to acknowledge and grow past these beliefs so that you can claim that regular time for you in your garden and lower your stress levels as you garden. And if you want that gardening coach to understand what its like to be a woman and mother in 2024. Who gets what its like to be battling agaisnt society's opinions and judgements around work and expectations of women on a daily basis then I'm the Gardening Coach for you. Send me a DM and let’s chat about how I can help you. #gardeningforwellbeing #gardeningformindfulness #gardencoaching #gardeningcoach #womenswellbeing #burnoutrecovery #adhdburnout #wellbeingworkshops #burnoutprevention #stressprevention #reducingstress
