Did your last planning session turn into a feature circus, with the leader managing egos? You're not alone. 🎪 Today's leaders often juggle two planning formats: - The grand offsite retreat or - The quick 3-hour sprint Both seem productive, but neither ignites true alignment or sparks inspiration. The culprit? Under-communicated vision. 📢 Effective planning commences with a clear vision, not a chaotic mix of ideas. Yet, leaders often forget the power of overcommunication, leaving their teams adrift in misalignment and confusion. Instead, imagine a relaxed process where your team absorbs your pre-shared vision and then speak openly, listen actively, and share the “logical why" behind every step. That's where the magic unfolds. #planning #productleadership

Unraveling the Real Source of Your Frustration with Your Team 🌀 "I'm frustrated the team isn't taking charge.” “I’m frustrated there’s no plan.” “I’m frustrated nobody’s executing.” Business owners think they’re frustrated with the team. But here’s what’s often overlooked… Frustration = anger inward. It’s a signal that something within needs attention. Once we get under the surface, we discover they’re really disappointed with themselves. If we think about who we are from a being perspective, from our true essence, we have our highest and best. It's our guiding star in leadership. Under stress, we often switch to survival mode. It's a primal instinct designed to keep us safe, but it can cloud our judgment and limit our vision. We can’t see what’s possible when we play in that space. The change starts with us as leaders. By adjusting our leadership lens, we can transform frustration into productivity and foster a stronger, more aligned team. If you’re finding yourself constantly feeling frustrated. Step back and allow yourself space to get clear on your vision. Then, share that vision with your team. They can’t do what you hired them to do without it. 👉 Want to transform your leadership style and team dynamics? Leadership thought of the day: In the realm of leadership, one principle stands out: "Calm breeds calm. Chaos breeds chaos." In times of uncertainty, the energy we project shapes our team's response. When leaders maintain calmness, it instills confidence, encourages clear thinking, and ultimately leads to more effective problem-solving. Conversely, chaos disrupts productivity, multiplies stress, and hinders decision-making. Leadership isn’t about never facing challenges—it's about how we handle them. Maintaining composure under pressure not only guides the team through turbulent times but also models resilience and clarity. Here are a few strategies to promote calm: 1. Prioritize Clarity: Set clear goals and expectations to dispel uncertainty. 2. Stay Present: Focus on what you can control and take it step-by-step. 3. Communicate Effectively: Keep an open line with your team, fostering transparency and trust. By embodying calmness, we create an environment where everyone can thrive, even amid chaos. How do you ensure calm within your team? Share your strategies in the comments! #Leadership #TeamManagement #Resilience #CalmLeadership #LeadingByExample

I help founders cultivate meaningful org cultures | Consultant for SME teams of >200 looking to scale with purpose & alignment
🤔 This is a quote from 1960 that still describes many command-and-control orgs of today. In "The Human Side of Enterprise”, Douglas McGregor discussed the team-based organizations of his time as being dominated by rigid hierarchy, complicated processes and monolithic priorities defining the day-to-day. However, he also observed empowered teams as well. He described these thriving teams as embodying several common characteristics across industries: 1️⃣ Informal, comfortable, relaxed atmospheres 2️⃣ Active participation in discussions 3️⃣ A clear understanding of tasks or objectives 4️⃣ Constructive disagreements are welcome 5️⃣ Consensus-driven decisions and non-dominating leadership are the norm 6️⃣ Periodic self-assessment of how things are done 7️⃣ A general environment where 'members listen to each other’ The debate continues today, although, given the uncertainty and complexity of the modern market I struggle to see how command-and-control organizations can sustain creative and collaborative teams. I hope you are a part of, or you’re working towards creating a work environment that brings out the best in you and your team! 🌱 #culture #organizationalculture #companyculture #management #leadership

🚀 Leadership Tip: Don't Take the Monkey! 🚀 Hey leaders! 🌟 Ever felt overwhelmed by your team's issues landing on your desk? Time to shift gears and empower your team to solve their own problems. Here's how: 1️⃣Recognize the Monkey: When a team member brings a problem to you, visualize it as a monkey trying to jump on your back. 2️⃣Shift Responsibility: Instead of saying, "Leave it with me," ask, "What have you tried so far?" This encourages ownership. 3️⃣Guide, Don’t Solve: Offer guidance if needed, but let them decide the next steps and set a follow-up time. 4️⃣Encourage Independence: If they're unsure, ask how long it’ll take to come up with options. This fosters self-reliance. 5️⃣Strategic Intervention: Sometimes you’ll need to intervene. Do so strategically, empowering them to handle similar issues in the future. By keeping the monkey on their back, you’ll foster a culture of accountability and lighten your load. Remember, it's about empowering your team to step up and solve problems themselves. 🐒💼 #Leaders #Leadership #Managers #Management #ManagementSkills #LeadershipSkills, #EmployeeMotivation #WorkplaceEngagement #CareerDevelopment #ContinuousLearning, #ProfessionalGrowth #LeadershipTraining #EmployeeSatisfaction #WorkplaceProductivity, #TeamPerformance #LeadershipStrategies #EmployeeDevelopment #MotivationalTechniques #JobSatisfaction #LeadershipCourse #EmployeeRetention, #WorkplaceCulture #LeadershipDevelopmentProgram #teamdevelopment #TimeManagement #Productivity #Communication #CommunicationSkills Learn More👉 https://lnkd.in/dxwWJKJ2

In today's rapidly changing business landscape, the only certainty is uncertainty. Gone are the days of concrete 3 year, 5 year and 10 year plans in business, precisely because we don't know what the future looks like, strategy practice is going through a period of foundational change. The solutions today are often to be found on the edges/fringes of everything we know. Today we need more sense-making rather than superhero leadership. One person is unlikely to be able to wave a single magic wand. More diverse voices in the room will likely result in the best guess. This requires two things that don't come out of nowhere: - Trust in each other - The ability to dialogue with each other These are very human traits that we need to spend more time working on within our teams. Experienced, intuitive strategic facilitators (they are rare) are required for this kind of specialised and sensitive work to help people in the group to become comfortable with not 'knowing' and to trust one another without having all the answers. It's a real leadership paradox, a massive shift away from traditional leaders needing to know all the answers or, indeed, having them. I specialise in this field, and work with leaders on an invdividual basis as well as in the group dynamic. It has become ever more important for leaders to be curious about their own (very old) patterns that script their responses and behaviour. These patterns direct their thinking and how they respond to others as well as to the big threat in the room of 'not knowing'. It's fascinating work. It's challenging work. It's unpredictable work. It develops an unexpected life of its own. By embracing and working with this line: 'you don't know what you don't know' this is actually the doorway and catalyst to finding the answers that you seek in these times of uncertainty. It was fabulous to have this thinking and way of working confirmed this afternoon in an online webinar, Empowering The Edge: The Evolution of Strategy Implementation hosted by Loren Phillips. Thanks to Sarah Wicks and Ewan Cameron for sharing their insights from their extensive work in this field, globally. #BusinessStrategy #StrategicLeadership #SenseMaking #StrategicFacilitators #Leadership #LeadershipDevelopment
