Gen Z was shaped by growing up during the recession and witnessing their parents struggle, highlighting the importance of understanding the events and conditions that influence a generation. This generation, with 84% preferring face-to-face communication, also uses emojis in emails to convey emotions. As digital natives, Gen Zers expect all technology to be sophisticated, contrasting with pioneers who had to learn and sometimes fight for new technology. They value frequent, direct feedback from their bosses and prefer customized experiences, including job titles. Having grown up in a customizable world, they expect diversity. While Millennials value teamwork and making a difference at work, they were also the first to challenge the notion that long-term tenure prevents faster progress. Gen Z values the speed of innovation and has been taught to be competitive due to their upbringing during the recession. However, they sometimes need reminders to slow down and not rush tasks. Leaders who believe they know everything are seen as "sages on stage," a perception shaped by their experience of entering the workforce where some Boomers withheld knowledge for job security, causing issues as Boomers retire. Overall, Gen Z is a competitive generation, with only 8% liking the open office concept. They appreciate the idea of sharing, but only if it is not expensive or difficult.

For the first time in our modern economy, ALL 5 generations of employees are working shoulder to shoulder... 🌱 🪴 🌷 🌳 🍂 🔆 Boomers avoid retirement, with 66% still at work. 🔆 Gen X'ers come very close to the majority... 🔆 And #Millennials dominate, making up 75% of the workforce. At the extremes of the age spectrum, you'll find many members of the Greatest Generation still at work (someone take grammy home!), and #GenZ, the youngest and brightest digital natives, swarming the new employment market. While it’s easy to focus on the generations’ vast differences, forward-thinking organizations see an opportunity to respond to a global economy. "More than 86% of global companies say a multigenerational workforce is valuable to their success and growth" -AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins. “As our population ages, as technological innovations continue to change the way we live and work and relate to one another... work in the future is going to be very different than it is today.” Unsure how to build an inclusive #multigenerational future for your workplace?
