If we are a long way short of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), why worry about it now? In a new Ash Center policy brief, Seth Lazar and Alex Pascal argue that the people building the most advanced AI systems are explicitly and aggressively working to bring AGI about, and they think they’ll get there in two to five years. Even some of the most publicly skeptical AI researchers don’t rule out AGI within this decade. If we, the affected public, do not actively shape this agenda now, we may miss the chance to do so at all. We face a fundamental question: is the very pursuit of AGI the kind of aim democracies should allow? Read the paper here ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eE6piYcx

Building impactful Startups (10x) from the ground up, with a strong focus on Empathy, Processes and Growth!
What comes to mind when I say "Human-Infused AI"? One of the critical advantages of Human-Infused AI is its potential to uphold ethical standards. AI systems, guided by human morals and societal norms, can make decisions that align more closely with our values. This fusion ensures that AI-driven actions and recommendations are not only efficient but also ethically sound. By embedding empathy into AI, we can create systems that understand and respond to "humans" more effectively, fostering a more profound connection between users and technology. So, what is Human-Infused AI? (Inspired by a conversation with the amazing Zach Messler) ______________________________________ 📌 Feel Free to Repost to your Network! 📌

Qualitative and mixed-methods researcher facilitating the powerful use of digital tools (CAQDAS packages) for analysis
Latest post on my blog is available now for anyone interested in or skeptical about the use of generative AI in Qualitative Research. Builds on part of the talk myself and Dr Steve Wright (PhD, MSc) gave at The Social Research Association annual conference last month. The risk of "qualitative deepfake" is a reality. Always think about tools critically before you use them, and if you do ensure you do so appropriately. That's the message. As always I welcome your comments https://buff.ly/3VWa7bb #QualitativeResearch #QualitativeDataAnalysis #QDA #QualitativeDeepfake #QualitativeAI #CAQDAS #QDAS

This article is extremely insightful! I hope more (African) policymakers understand that: 1. AI governance is a full package and drafting an AI Policy or Strategy is part of this package but not the package itself. 2. Active review and assessment is necessary for tangible results 3. “Responsible AI is where AI ethics meets AI governance” 4. Regulations (laws) aren’t all you need…unless it’s about regulating the right things e.g. making sure no one is exploiting your people in the AI value chain. 5. There’s no need to organize hundreds of summits/conferences on AI if it’s not to listen to the actual actors in that ecosystem and ACT accordingly. Something great is happening. #ai #artificialintelligence #aipolicy #aistrategy #aigovernance #aisafety #aiethics #aiinafrica #innovation

This debate between Yuval & Mustafa Suleyman, two public intellectuals on the role of AI in the future of human civilization was not only enlightening but also a beautiful display of complementary perspectives. Personally, I think their discussion skillfully contextualized the broad acceptance of the EU's AI regulation, showcasing it as a crucial balancing act. While I deeply appreciate Yuval's emphasis on caution, I find myself more aligned with Mustafa Suleyman's views. His insights and work with Inflection AI have significantly influenced my work in AI over the past few months.
