Fintech startup Pockit announced the acquisition of UK first mobile only banking service Monese #Pockit, a #fintech company dedicated to serving the "unbanked," has acquired #Monese, Britain's first mobile-only banking service. This merger creates a combined business that now serves over three million customers, aiming to revolutionize access to financial services for those underserved by traditional banks. Pockit was founded in 2014 by CEO Virraj Jatania, who envisioned providing accessible financial solutions to individuals often overlooked by mainstream finance. Monese, established in 2013 by Estonian entrepreneur Norris Koppel after his own challenges opening a bank account as a migrant worker, shares a similar mission. With over two million customers across more than 30 countries, Monese brings a strong European presence to the table. This #acquisition is transformational for several reasons. Monese's e-money and consumer credit licenses will allow Pockit to reduce transaction costs and introduce new lending products, tackling issues like predatory lending practices that affect low-income families. The combined entity is set to process around £5 billion in transactions annually. Investors are backing this ambitious integration, with Puma Growth Partners planning to lead an investment of up to £15 million. Pockit's notable backers include Sir Alex Ferguson, former Manchester United manager; private equity veteran Jon Moulton; and the UK government's Future Fund. This merger represents a significant step toward financial inclusion for the estimated 17.5 million people in the UK who struggle to access traditional financial services. By joining forces, Pockit and Monese are poised to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need it most. The article on The Times in the first comment.
