❓ How can we close the growing skills gap across the UK? New research by the Learning and Work Institute highlights a widening "skills chasm" between regions in the UK. Areas like London and the south are pulling ahead, while others, such as Greater Lincolnshire and the West Midlands, fall further behind. This divide is expected to grow over the next decade unless both employers and the government act. The upcoming post-16 skills strategy and reforms, including the Growth and Skills Levy, are a step in the right direction, but a more joined-up approach is needed to ensure equal opportunities across all regions. Talent is everywhere, opportunity is not says Kirstie Donnelly, MBE Seema Malhotra FRSA has really got a grasp on the join up that needs to happen between departments. It's a complex picture for sure. In this year's #YouthVoiceCensus we heard that young people do not feel confident in their next steps, that they do not know what skills employers need.
