Mexico to spend $1.6bn on port expansions Mexico’s new president Claudia Sheinbaum said her government will spend $1.6bn expanding six seaports to promote industrial growth. On the Pacific Coast, the ports of Manzanillo, Ensenada, Lázaro Cárdenas, and Acapulco de Juárez will get a makeover. Veracruz and Progreso on the Atlantic side will be upgraded. Manzanillo, Mexico’s largest, will get the biggest overhaul. Between now and 2029, $671m will be spent building two fuel terminals, four container terminals and a dedicated dock for large fishing vessels. A customs precinct with the capacity to attend to 10 million shipping containers a year will also be added. At Progreso, a $357m project will develop an 80ha area with a new shipyard and a range of terminals, including ones for LNG and petroleum. A $393m project at Lázaro Cárdenas will double annual container handling capacity from 4 million to 8.2 million. #ports #exports #ISeaSMEs #construction #shipping https://lnkd.in/eUXXxcKa

In delivering talent for the future, through apprenticeships and all other entry and progression pathways, competence and the safety of building design, delivery and occupation must be considered no matter the occupation, level or role - it is everyone's job! That is why in our recent revisions to all the TAC occupational (apprenticeship) standards, we have included the need for initial and ongoing professionalism, understanding of competence and its impacts, and not going 'beyond your own' competence levels. This is already hard baked into the the professional standards for EngTech and IEng - the outcomes aimed for with our apprenticeships. In taking in the outcomes from the latest Grenfell report, we must all now act and work together to delivering these outcomes for apprentices, assessed via the EPA process in collaboration with our professional institution partners, and move the dial beyond just being 'academically qualified'. We must make sure all our apprentices, graduates, mentors, line managers and those responsible for training hear this message loud and clear. We cannot let this happen ever again.
And here is the CLC reaction to the Final Report of the Grenfell Inquiry https://lnkd.in/gwhUYnFP

The 'Circular Economy' approach to production, waste reduction and consumption is as necessary as it is transformative, but it is one that can only function effectively when underpinned by trust — trust that the waste products circulating within the economy are safe, trust they are free of hazardous materials and trust that their origins can be traced and certified. It's great to be a part of this stellar lineup to discuss how we can move forward as an industry and provide more room and appetite for circular products, while maintaining compliance and public trust. Looking forward to seeing you there!!
Last 48hours to join the upcoming Melbourne Branch Event! https://lnkd.in/gGT94ceJ The main purpose of this event is to identify and address key problems hindering progress and to develop strategies to improve the safety, sustainability, and reliability of circular economies in construction. By encouraging dialogue and collaboration among various stakeholders, across 2 panels, we aim to enhance the efficiency and responsibility of recycling practices in the construction industry. Panellists include Dean Lal John McCluskey Stephen Mount Michael Wood Lorna Mathieson Aristos Karavias Lincoln Heitman Fiona Bettiss Liam McGarry Keith Dimech Arthur Hatzis Thank you to our venue partner Norton Rose Fulbright and those who work hard behind the scene to put this event together Matthew Askeland Gemma Williams Eugenia Serrano Serrano Tarsha Ellem

Big companies in Marin are not only in tech The San Francisco Business Times regularly releases “Top 100” lists regarding Bay Area companies. Recently, SFBT released the top 100 private companies according to revenues, which included 4 companies in Marin (Ghilotti Bros. Inc., W. Bradley Electric, Precision General Commercial Contractors, and Golden Gate Sotheby’s International Realty). Three of these companies are in the category of “construction/engineering”, which was by far the largest category of companies with 39 of the 100. The next largest category was “food & beverage” with just 8. Tech had 8 companies as well, but remember many tech companies in the Bay Area are public companies with massive revenues.
