🌴🌞 I am getting a recurring question lately - "David, why are you moving to California? Isn't everyone moving out?!" 🌴🌞 Here are the reasons both personally and professionally... First and foremost, we were drawn to the amazing climate. ☀️🌴 Escaping the scorching Arizona summers was a priority for us, especially as our oldest daughter Sophia starts kindergarten. Arizona is advertised to having "perfect weather 9-months out of the year" 90+ degrees for five months straight is not our definition of perfect weather! 🌡️❌ Another driving factor was our desire to simplify our lives. In Arizona, we had a beautiful house in Arcadia, but we realized that we had accumulated so much unnecessary stuff. 🏡💼 Moving to a smaller, more manageable space of 2,200 sqft from our previous 5,000 sqft home was a drastic but liberating change. It allowed us to focus on what truly matters and reduce clutter. And lastly, the move aligns with our career goals. While Arizona provided a solid foundation for investing, it is not a great place to continue to grow. The Arizona is very impressive but it is very dense. There aren't clear lines of my networks network outside of AZ. Building a network in southern California will create network ties to more vibrant hubs that will open up even better opportunities for capital formation and sourcing. 📈💼 When we shared our decision with our network, we received an overwhelmingly positive response. 🤝 Many people praised our move and expressed their love for the California lifestyle. Of course, there were some concerns raised about taxes and certain policies, but for us, the enhanced quality of life in California outweighed those considerations. 🌟 We are thrilled to embark on this new chapter and embrace all that Carlsbad and California have to offer. 🎉🌅 Here's to new adventures, personal growth, and creating lasting memories in this incredible place we now call home! #newbeginnings #relocation #qualityoflife #adventureawaits

🌟 What an unexpected surprise! 🌟 Last week gave me a sweet reminder to share your gifts and trust they’ll land where they’re meant to be. The city of Ashland Virginia brought me in to give a talk on commercial real estate development. First, a big shoutout to the city for empowering local business owners to be the first to leverage city incentives and opportunities in their downtown corridor! But wait, it gets better! Just before the event started, I met an incredible woman who introduced herself as one of my “Wine & Real Estate” participants from way back in 2020! (She was also on last week’s Re-Launch call!) Since then, she’s built an impressive portfolio of income properties and is excited to dive into new areas of real estate investing. She shared that one of her favorite sessions focused on seller-financing, and that it sparked an idea that led to a sweet seller-financed deal for her! I can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next! She also mentioned that I’d almost met her son at a talk that I gave in Kansas City a few years ago. So, our paths have been “almost” crossing for a while! Traveling 2 1/2 hours, to a city I’ve never visited before, to give a talk on a topic that I’m passionate about, led to such a serendipitous meeting! Tending to Our Garden First: In 2023, we decided it was time to take Marlin Capital to the next level of impact. When one thinks about impact, it is often an outward-facing thought. Questions like “How do we have an impact on the world around us” come to mind. We are driven by our Purpose to Elevate Lives and Ignite Impact. We want to give power to opportunities, using our resources to make an impact that will result in unlimited potential and success. It was clear from the onset that it was important for us to focus inwardly for the first year of proactive action toward our new structure. We needed to understand all facets of our company—marketing, strategic networking, operations, and finances/administration. We also needed to empower people within our organizations to take ownership of these functions and bring their unique perspectives to the table. Simply put, we needed to tend to our own garden first in order to provide for greater impact. We have an ambitious goal of generating an income that enables a $3,000,000 annual contribution to the Harvey Family Foundation. This will represent 30% of our adjusted income, exemplifying our commitment to our Purpose. This is a lofty goal, but one we truly believe we can accomplish, given our past six months of inward focus on the right people focused on the right things. The wheels are starting to turn.
