𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: The greatest benefit of international congresses is that they build #community. How I was reminded of this during the IEEE RAS ICRA 40th Anniversary congress in Rotterdam. 🤖 I have had the privilege of working with key members of the Netherlands' robotics community in recent years to bring congresses like the 40th Anniversary congress of the IEEE Robotics & Automation Society to Rotterdam. Attending this recent congress really crystallized the reasons why and how community is built: 1. They 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 each other - the panel session dedicated to 40 years of robotics featured 10 leading international roboticists sharing what they were most proud of in their own work, but also in the work of their colleagues. (Including our Rotterdam Knowledge Ambassador, Stefano Stramigioli!) 2. They 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗱 together, a lot - aside from the many happy encounters I saw between colleagues who work together across many hundreds or even thousands of kilometers, there was also the moment of the anniversary retrospective. It started out serious (photos of all the past presidents) but ended with a great deal of laughter about shared experiences across 40 years of congresses. 3. They 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 from each other - delegates were driven by curiosity at the exhibition, but also in the exclusively plenary sessions, ensuring that everyone experienced the same content at the same time, and allowing the delegates to benefit from each others questions in the Q&A. 4. They 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 each other - when Ruzena Bajcsy took the stage at the gala dinner to share her 90 years of wisdom, the room was hushed as she said: "Your work, your dedication, your humanity; this is my legacy" before closing with a simple statement of "I love you all." (There was a standing ovation, and more than a few tears.) 💚 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁. 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. 📢 On December 5th Stephen Lernout and I will be at ASAM e.V.'s International Conference in Munich to talk about Deontic's efforts to convert natural language to driving scenarios. 🚗 Driving scenarios are essential in the development of cars. They help car makers simulate the behavior of their vehicles, to make sure they can be put on the roads safely. 🤖 Creating these scenarios, however, is a labor-intensive task. And while current Large Language Models can help coders write Python or Java, even GPT-4o struggles when it comes to creating complex scenarios. 🦾 However, with a number of modifications to the processing pipeline, we have found that it becomes possible to generate simulation scenarios that are syntactically accurate and faithful to the input. 💻 At the ASAM International Conference, we'll give participants exclusive insights into our technology and demonstrate its current capabilities. ➡️ Sounds interesting?
