Still on UN SDG World Youth Skills Day 2024 'Youth Skills for Peace and Development' #worldyouthskillsday One of the six-point agenda earmarked for his excellency Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s tenure is a laser-like focus on youth development and job creation. Ekiti state is known to be “The fountain of knowledge” which is a phrase attributed to the state due to a historic (and I dare say generational) focus on education, which is evidenced by the unbeatable number of scholars of Ekiti heritage at home, and in the diaspora. And in order to be prepared for the future of work, it is essential to adopt employability readiness. Employability readiness aims to promote, implement and continually support a youth empowerment initiative to prepare and equip Ekiti youths for the digital future, enable them compete equally and effectively on a global playing field and be the model Nigerian youth. This approach aims to leverage on foundational knowledge as a launch pad to prepare the youth for the future, and help them navigate the difficult terrains of the wider corporate society. Fresh undergraduates on the other hand will be equipped with necessary soft-skills and time management skills to equip them for the tertiary institution journey. #empoweryouth #skillsforpeace We shall also prepare final year students for the workforce mentally and provide them with the necessary IT and Management focused courses to give them the knowledge, skill and autonomy to aid cross-skilling in a highly dynamic and competitive corporate playing field. Provide industry specific training to support discipline of choice. Technical certification advice, support and enrolment. Work placement within the Ekiti state government to use skills effectively. #futureleaders On this World Youth Skills Day, my pledge is to ensure that our youth are seen, heard, valued and supported. Let us all make it a duty by promoting the talents of our young people and encourage them to be models for peace. In so doing, we must also be committed to providing them with the skills and opportunities to address challenges that will ultimately lead to a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future. #buildingbettertomorrow

Your Mentorship Can Enable Career Development for Women. 🤩 Our Ambassador, Binnie Bintou Cisse, founded Empowering Women in Africa and Binnie’s English Training. Empowering Women in Africa has educated 56 girls, and this year, Bintou has expanded its scope to upskill women to compete with the workforce by providing training in technology and admin skills. Bintou’s tips for you to enable women’s education are: - Find programmes to mentor girls and women in your country, and volunteer your skills to help them expand their work. - If you have the means, offer to sponsor the education of girls from underprivileged backgrounds. - If hiring, consider candidates from upskilling programmes such as Bintou’s. Empowering Nigerian Youth on World Youth Skills Day 2024: My Perspective As we commemorate World Youth Skills Day 2024, it's vital to reflect on its significance and impact on Nigeria's future. Established by the United Nations, this day emphasizes equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. In a country where over 60% of the population is under 25, addressing youth skills and employability is crucial. Challenges Faced by Nigerian Youth Despite Nigeria’s youthful potential, several challenges hinder their transition to employment: - Skills Mismatch: The gap between education and market demands leads to high graduate unemployment. - Lack of Practical Experience: Emphasis on theoretical knowledge over practical skills leaves graduates unprepared for the workplace. - Access to Quality Education and Training: Inequality in access to education and training, especially in rural areas, limits opportunities. - Economic Barriers: The prohibitive cost of education and training excludes many talented youth. - Digital Divide: Limited access to technology and digital literacy hampers participation in the digital economy. Strategies for Empowerment 1. Revamp Education Curricula: Include practical and vocational training, and align curricula with market needs. 2. Promote Vocational and Technical Training: Provide practical skills to reduce the skills mismatch and increase employability.Enhance Internship and 3. Apprenticeship Programs: Create more opportunities for hands-on experience and skill development.Support Entrepreneurship: Encourage entrepreneurial skills and provide support for young entrepreneurs. 4. Improve Access to Digital Skills: Ensure access to technology and digital training for all youth.
