#onebookaweek 📖 In "Why We Sleep," neuroscientist and sleep expert Matthew Walker explains the profound impact of sleep on our physical and mental well-being, highlighting the dangers of sleep deprivation and providing actionable strategies for achieving better sleep. It resonated with me very much despite being a relatively good sleeper. You can continually improve! If you read it, what did you think of it⁉ Share your comments and views. My 3 key takeaways and practical tips are: 1️⃣ Aim for anywhere between 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. A regular sleep schedule (same time to bed, time to wake up), even on weekends, helps regulate your circadian rhythm. Do you sleep 7 hours? 2️⃣ Optimize your bedroom for sleep by ensuring total darkness, quiet, and a comfortable(read lower) temperature. There is no need to mention avoiding caffeine and screen time. But who manages that??? 3️⃣ Incorporate mindfulness and relaxation techniques to calm your mind and prepare for sleep. I started a 5-minute meditation before falling asleep using the CALM app; so far, so good. My struggle with sleep. We all know that having a consistent sleep schedule is key to better health, focus, and overall well-being. But let me be honest—I’m still struggling with it! Knowing something is important doesn’t automatically make it easy to do. This applies especially to something that is health related because the effects of bad habits isn’t immediate… but it will be long lasting! The good news is? I’ve started measuring my sleep using my watch and phone. Do I know if the data is accurate ? No. But what I do know is that it gives me basic data from the same source over a longer period that is actually comparable. And I think that’s a good place to start. Also, in my brain, I believe what gets measured gets managed. Tracking has helped me notice patterns and make small adjustments, even if it’s a work in progress. For those of you also struggling with sleep, don’t be discouraged. Improvement doesn’t happen overnight (pun intended)! Focus on tracking your progress, one night at a time. What helps you get a good night’s sleep? Any and all tips will be welcome! 😁
