Test Automation Consultant | SDET | QA Automation Engineer | Selenium & Java | Playwright | SFPC™ Certified | Driving Quality Through Automation
Hello Folks, I found these things in every job descriptions which I strongly disagree with it! 🫡 Check this description ⬇️ We are looking for following skilled Automation QA for our team : Automation QA/Testing - Selenium / Appium with Java/C#; Robot Automation framework with Python Accessibility Testing API Automation - Rest Assured Performance Testing/SRE - Security Testing Test Manager/Scrum Master/DevOps Java/.NET/Python/Angular/Mainframe/React JS / Oracle PL/SQL Developers Do you really thinks this is the job description for Automation QA ?🤔 1) Looking at the description I thinks there should be any one core programming language which company is using for automation framework rather than mentioning all the language like java/python/C# including robot frameworks! If you want specific preferred programming for your client or project mentioned it properly so candidate who is applying it can know it well according to your requirements. I found mentioning Java language in description later once candidate is onboard he/she needs to work on C# - (he/she don’t even have enough experience or familiar with C# ). Note : For every programming language there is different IDE & Implementations. 2) How person can be everything? - Scrum master , Devops Engineer , Test Manager? 3)Performance testing - there should be separate performance tester or don’t you think it should comes under Manual QA? 4) Accessibility testing also comes under Manual QA responsibilities if you’re hiring core QA Automation Engineers. To everyone who is applying for job asked below mentioned things to check if that role really fits you or not :- - What are the core programming language you really want? -Does performance/accessibility/security testing comes under QA Automation responsibilities? -Which automation tool are you using - Selenium or Cypress? -Do need to do Manual Testing as well or do we have separate manual QA team? -What is the domain & how many projects do need to implement automation? - Most Imp - know their budget or ask if they are ready to give as per your expectations before starting the hiring process ✅Hope you found this post insightful? Sr. SDET| Full Stack QA | API & UI Automation | QA Advocate | Top 1% Mentor | Gen AI Enthusiast | Prompt Engineering | Continuous Learning | Writes to 80K+
Why QA Role is being misunderstood in 2024? Many companies today expect QA/Test Engineers to possess skills such as: ↳ Coding ↳ Web/Mobile/API Automation ↳ Performance Metric ↳ Security Evaluations ↳ CI/CD knowledge ↳ Cloud platforms understanding such as AWS/Azure ↳ Framework/Design Patterns ↳ Multi Programming Languages While these technical skills are important, relying solely on them won’t lead to reliable or expert QA ➭ But here’s the truth: A true QA expert brings much more to the table than just running tests or writing scripts. ➭ To ensure product quality and make a real impact, you need: ↳ Product Knowledge – Understanding the product’s perspective, end-user, & aligning testing with business goals ↳ Effective Communication – Example: Clearly explaining complex bugs to both technical & non-technical stakeholders ↳ Collaboration – Working closely with developers, product managers to facilitate smooth & high-quality releases ↳ Critical Thinking – Approaching problems from a business perspective & making decisions that impact end-user experience for product success ↳ Focusing solely on technical skills is a narrow approach. Great QA engineers elevate the entire process, from planning to release Verdict: "Companies should not only focus on Coding or Automation skills, but they should add versatility of QA knowledge too" P.S: What say? -x-x- Get access to specialized E-Books for upcoming SDETs: https://lnkd.in/gdmYX-BH Transition to Test Architect roles successfully using a designated step by step Full Stack QA course: https://lnkd.in/dWjpT3-3 #japneetsachdeva

A note about the importance of both Manual Test Specialists and Automation Specialists, in regards to software teams. There is an important distinction between Software Testers/QA Engineers who focus on developing test cases (and all the many skillsets that entails) and Automation Engineers (who primarily write code) If you are expecting your team members to do both, I might ask why you are wasting your money. As an example, airlines do not expect their pilots to also be their mechanics. Restaurants do not expect the manager to also be able to whip up a world class Crème Brûlée. Many SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) transition into developer roles, because the skillsets are very compatible. Professional automation engineers spent their careers learning the same programming languages that your company likely uses for its features, and many individuals that begin their development careers begin them in test automation, as a way to become familiar with the products they will one day improve. Very few transition into a more senior testing role, because the skillsets do not carry over. Writing code that tests code is very different than writing test cases that validate your acceptance criteria. By contrast, Manual Testers often transition into Product Owner roles, because the skillsets (such as converting requirements into acceptance criteria, and acceptance criteria into test cases) Share many of the same skillsets (and tools, and end-user focus, etc.) As I have been seeking new employment opportunities for just over a month now, I have noticed a number of companies falling into a common trap with regard to how they view automation and test engineers as blended roles. I have seen several job postings for which I am a highly qualified candidate, perhaps one of the top applicants, with a dozen job responsibilities and skills that I have mastered, ruined by a single line item that does not fit with the rest of the job. -Develop Automated Test Scripts This line here is a job all on its own. If you are looking to hire someone who can write automated test scripts (code), that should be their primary role. Writing code is a full time job, and your team should already have several employees who can attest to that fact. You should hire Automation Engineers to support your features with good automated test code. You should also hire Manual Test Engineers to support your product with good test plans, cases, and strategies. (As a quick post-script, This is not to say your manual testers don't need any kind of skills in white box testing! Being able to correctly read and interpret API calls, read Splunk logs, send SQL Queries, and work with browser DevTools are all great skillsets for your testers to have!)
