In a Randomized Clinical Trial conducted by the Department of Anesthesiology and Surgery at Catharina Hospital Eindhoven, The Netherlands, 202 bariatric surgery patients participated to evaluate the benefits of our remote patient monitoring solution, #Healthdot, in an ambulatory care pathway. The objective of the study was to assess the impact of #Healthdot, a wearable biosensor, on reducing the length of hospital stay—a critical challenge for healthcare systems worldwide due to rising costs and resource constraints. The results showed a 61% reduction in the length of hospital stay when using #Healthdot for continuous remote monitoring in postoperative care, compared to the standard care pathway (overnight hospital stay with manual checks by nurses). Additionally, patients who received remote care were equally satisfied compared to those in the standard care group. This study highlights the role of remote monitoring in revolutionizing patient care, improving hospital efficiency, and reducing healthcare costs. It also empowers healthcare workers to focus on more critical tasks, improving overall patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Almost everyone I speak with in the #healthcareindustry is feeling the impact of the current shortage in anesthesia providers, but the demand for these services continues to increase in response to our growing and aging population. On top of that, approximately 57% of anesthesiologists are age 55 or older. PYA recently published a helpful study and infographic summarizing the trends we see in this specialty. It's a short read providing insight into one of the more pressing issues facing the industry today.
The need for more anesthesiology providers is a major concern across the U.S. Without more providers, patients could find themselves waiting longer for surgeries. Check out more from PYA's updated study: https://lnkd.in/eYC9CvTC

A new book chapter co-authored by Habib Jabagi, MD MSc FRCSC, cardiovascular surgeon, was recently published in “Recent Strategies in High Risk Surgery.” This text offers standardized guidelines for managing high-risk surgical patients across various specialties, addressing preoperative evaluation, perioperative challenges, and postoperative care in a holistic manner. Written by global experts and covering topics from lifestyle interventions to ethical dilemmas, it serves as a resource for medical professionals across disciplines, including surgery, anesthesiology, critical care, and nursing, as well as industry stakeholders and policymakers. Dr. Jabagi’s chapter focuses on the crucial role of frailty in cardiac surgery outcomes, emphasizing its heightened prevalence and impact on older, multimorbid patients. Despite its significance, frailty remains underrecognized, underscoring the need for tailored interventions and refined assessment tools to optimize outcomes in this high-risk population. Ever wondered about the use of methadone during surgery? 🏥✨ Researchers surveyed 169 U.S. anesthesiology residency programs to find out how often intraoperative methadone is used for managing pain and what obstacles might be in play. Here’s the scoop: out of 49 responding institutions, methadone use was quite rare. For inpatient surgeries, only 12% of hospitals reported using it, and the numbers were even lower for outpatient procedures. 🚫💉 For more details, check out the full study in Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine. https://bit.ly/3ZtN6zN

By 2050, remote monitoring and AI will revolutionize anesthesiology. Extrico Health co-founder Dr. Ira Hofer shared his insights, “Rather than look at surgery as something that starts and ends in the operating room – we are trying to look more broadly at how you optimize patients before surgery and how can you continue to monitor and optimize them after surgery.” Dive into the article and podcast "Remote Monitoring and Artificial Intelligence: Outlook for 2050", published in the February special issue of Anesthesia & Analgesia here: https://lnkd.in/dJVdVyEz #healthtechinnovation #healthtech #aiandhealthcare #futureofhealthcare #AI #surgeryoptimization #surgeon #surgery #healthstartup #founder #healthcare #2050
