Well, here it is... Haveli Investments' first annual sustainability report. It was a crazy first year but we managed to get it done - formal carbon accounting, third party attestation, full carbon removal purchasing, and transparent publication. Not sure if the speed is a first for the private equity industry but I do know now that the age of a firm can't be used as an excuse for not recording and reporting emissions! We even managed to keep it (kind of?) short. As we say in the report, the technology sector isn't the highest emitting sector, nor the most difficult to abate. But it will play a critical operational role in any future net zero carbon economy, and it is imperative that technology companies lead the way in decarbonizing their operations. That is why we are so focused on this. Our results and report are just one small step in line with our ambition to be Net Zero from Fund One for both ourselves and our portfolio companies. And represents just half of our overall Sustainability Squared strategy that focuses on both operating software sustainability while selectively investing in sustainability software. Lots of work ahead! None of this would have been possible without a whole host of Haveli folks leaning in - Madeline Schell, Haley Pietro, Nora Cappellini, Della Richardson amongst many others all made it happen. Lucas Joppa - I appreciate your candor about what the private equity industry needs to be doing in sustainability and the effort you all put into your report with carbon accounting, third-party attestation, CDR purchasing, and transparency. 👍 The industry, thanks to efforts like this one, has come a LONG way since I was doing similar work in private equity 20 years ago.

6moThis is really great. I especially appreciate the variety of your carbon removal projects, and the transparency around them! It’s also so important for the world to learn more about software’s role in creating a sustainable future, both from its embodied/operational emissions AND from the impact it can have on supporting measurement and reduction of GHGs as a product. Can’t wait to keep up with you all! Bravo!
