Howdy, Partner
As we’ve seen throughout history, great collaborations have the power to change the world. (Hello, Wright Brothers.) In the case of one collaboration in Okla., four of the state’s largest energy leaders, along with PE firm Energy Innovation Capital (EIC) and the George Kaiser Family Foundation, have created a unique platform to incubate, seed, commercialize, and scale next-generation energy innovations. And who knows, maybe even change the world.
Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest from Tulsa-based EIC Rose Rock, an early-stage VC Fund formed in 2016 that takes its name from the world’s most prolific outcropping of Rose Rocks found in Okla. With seven portfolio companies, the firm takes startups from concept to marketplace, specifically those pioneering new energy technologies that advance the energy transition, improve sustainability, and enhance the operational efficiency of existing assets. Top dog Okla., investors include Devon Energy, ONEOK, Williams, and most recently Helmerich & Payne.
EIC Rose Rock has now announced its latest direct investment in Caltech-originated startup Fluid Efficiency, which has developed polymer materials for the midstream industry that increase pipeline efficiency, reduce explosiveness of fuels and oils, and reduce the energy required to pump fluids across long distances. The company will relocate to Tulsa, where it will build a manufacturing center and work with ONEOK to deploy its products. Fluid Efficiency anticipates creating 10 to 20 local jobs by the end of next year. What do you think?
