Chicago’s restaurant scene is known worldwide. To keep it thriving, city must bring down burglaries. (via Chicago Sun-Times) “Chicago is famous for its food. Its restaurants represent myriad cultures, from Ecuadorian to Indian. Not many cities can compete with Chicago when it comes restaurant fare. But a disturbing trend threatens our lively food scene. Burglaries of restaurants are hitting record numbers, as reported by the Sun-Times recently. Reporters Ambar Colón, Mohammad Samra and Tom Schuba found that 635 burglaries were reported at restaurants last year, the most since at least 2001. Worse yet, Chicago is on track to surpass that number this year. Generally, thieves are looking for cash and liquor, the reporters noted. Apparently, there is a prolific black market for booze. What can be done? For starters, alderpersons should consider tapping funds from their aldermanic menu programs to install concrete barriers where feasible in front of restaurants and stores susceptible to smash-and-grabs — when criminals ram vehicles through glass windows to steal. Yet another new Redberry Burger King. By the end of 2023, our net new unit count will be up 12% versus prior year and we'll have over 150 total Burger Kings. We continue to be the largest Burger King franchisee in Canada by a large margin. We had hoped to open more but the development ecosystem remains a challenge (permit delays, construction delays). In my opinion, McDonald’s has pretty much been the same since I was a little boy. But now, for the first time in 60 years they’re going to open up a new restaurant concept called CosMc’s. At these restaurants you won’t find their famous burgers and fries or a big lobby with a play gym for kids as this concept instead focuses on adults who want to pick up something quick like an iced coffee. The menu is rather small with items like spiced lattes and flavored lemonades. The food items are rather limited as well with options like an avocado tomato sandwich, McDonald’s egg McMuffin, ice cream, and other snacks like hash brown bites. You won’t find any of the new concept restaurants in San Diego. They will have about 10 test locations in Texas cities like Dallas, Fort Worth and San Antonio, but you still have to wait until the end of 2024 to test out this new concept. I guess after staying with the same concept for 60 years or so, it does take some time to get a new concept off the ground.
