NIPD - Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to celebrate the presence and resilience of our people. Over the past decade there has been significant movement towards reconciliation. Collaboration has been identified as one vehicle to get us moving towards greater alignment of laws, values and priorities. It has been said that collaboration is our new mission statement. By design, the Crown has a significant challenge sharing power with Nations. An observation of mine is that it is easier to collaborate on process matters than it is to collaborate on strategic matters. Some may measure success by the amount of meetings held (process) versus measuring success by measuring the number of policies and laws that have changed as a result of working together (substance). In the spirit of “what gets measured gets done”, what metrics would you use to measure whether a provincial government and a collective group of FN’s are indeed making collaborative progress consistent with the promises contained within the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples? Thank you for your feedback, enjoy this special day! #measuringprogress

Are you preparing for the UN High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development - scheduled for July 2024? Please take a moment to review this critically relevant IFSW policy: The Role of Social Workers in Advancing a New Eco-Social World. https://lnkd.in/esGCaJqF And thank you colleague for bringing this to the attention of the United Nations: " IFSW adopted the policy paper "The Role of Social Workers in Advancing a New Eco-Social World" which calls for extending the existing UN Human Rights Declaration to a Holistic Rights Framework to encompass social human rights, cultural rights, ecosystem rights, and the broader rights of nature to ensure that the global crises of climate change, pandemics, and conflict are addressed and that a new eco-social world can flourish."
