Community health workers (#CHWs) are vital for universal health coverage (UHC)! Undeniable evidence shows that CHWs deliver primary health care that improves access, increases equity, and saves lives. That’s why at #UNGA79 we’re advocating for professional CHWs (#proCHWs) who are salaried, skilled, supervised, and supplied to be the norm worldwide. Join us as we work towards #healthforall. The reality of the Ontario health landscape is that Emergency depts CANNOT handle the volume of people requiring care In Ontario and Ottawa we are fortunate to have CHC (Community Health Centres) and CRCs (Community Resource Centres) that fill part of that gap. Without them many in our underserved communities would not get the care they need. BUT It is becoming more and more difficult to retain our staff as CHC & CRC wages cannot compete with Public Health or Hospitals. We need wage increases to keep our communities properly supported. Recognizing most people don’t support change until they know ‘what’s in this for me’ If the folks being served at community level are forced to seek care at hospitals there will be even LESS bandwidth. The Eckler report was commissioned by the Alliance of Ontario Health Centres (AOHC) and provides insight into the issues. Make a difference speak to your Provincial Member of Parliament, ask them if they can describe situation and then ask about potential solutions. https://lnkd.in/eAnRQP_Z

The community health workforce, like our team at Western Ottawa CRC loves the work they do, but the growing wage gap is making it harder to continue delivering health care and support in the community that millions of Ontarians rely on. #ForUsForYou

Screening for social needs should be required. All government-funded health and human service programs should receive enhanced funding to ensure screening for social needs, and the rules and regulations of social service interventions should be modified to encourage health plans and health systems to address them. Do you agree? #health #community #healthcare #screening #socialneeds #socialcare #government #sdoh
