While most of my formal training is not in biology, I have spent much of my career studying small animals like insects, mollusks, and other invertebrates. I teach classes on octopus and squid, and on ants and bees, for instance. And I work a lot with butterflies and dragonflies. Why? One reason: they’re easy to overlook, and I don’t want to miss them. Another reason: they’re libraries of information, stored up over millions of years, and they can teach us a lot to spur new technologies and to solve old problems. And another: our health and their health are often closely related. 🌱 🌎 "Sharing the Planet" Theme with the central idea that plants are life-sustaining for us and other living things. 🌱 🌎 My PYP 3 students during the sorting out phase, the students and their parents actively participated in a planting activity. Recognizing the importance of including parents in the learning journey, the students created checklists before the 🪴 planting day 🪴 and closely followed and marked each step with their parents. To enhance their research skills, we provided the students with plant journals, where they observe their plants daily and record data. In addition to this, they did a sorting activity to differentiate between plant-based and non-plant-based food. In their writing, they practiced sequencing words to describe the step-by-step process of planting a seed. Also, the students applied their understanding of the change key concept by drawing the change that happens to the trees during the four seasons.

SPRING HAS ARRIVED IN ALL IT'S GLORY 🌻🌻🌻 We all know that it is the best season to garden, and a great skill for kids to cherish forever - but where is the best place to start? SPRING GARDENING TASKS - As everything starts to grow and flower, fertilising is crucial. Feed all plants, including the lawn, and especially hungry fruits and vegetables, roses, gardenias and hibiscus. After fertilising, re-mulch garden beds to keep down weeds and to protect the soil during summer. - If hedges have grown too tall or too wide, whip them into shape now, when recovery will be rapid. Most hedging plants (except conifers) will take hard pruning back to old wood. - Prune shrubs to shape as they finish flowering – this is a great rule of thumb to follow if you're unsure when to prune. - Re-pot cymbidium orchids, using special orchid potting mix. Also re-pot indoor pot plants; trim any tatty, dead or yellow leaves, wash and feed. - Lay new lawns or renovate patchy lawns now. - Plant summer annuals, including petunias, torenias, salvias and begonias. - Reprogram irrigation timers and check that the lines are fully functioning. - Hurry to plant new shrubs and trees so they can establish themselves before it gets hot. It is important to acquire the necessary training and expertise to effectively implement the National Certificate curriculum program on 'Know About Business in Fisheries' through Vocational Education Training. Being a part of the Highlands Regional Team present during the implementation phase is a source of great satisfaction.

A lot of parents want to connect their children to nature, but they're not sure where to start. One of our most popular suggestions is to buy a plant for your child (instead of another toy!) and give them the responsibility of watering it, nurturing it, making sure it has the right amount of sunlight, pruning it, feeding it and re-potting it when it outgrows it's pot! Learn about the plant. Bring up as much information as you can find out about it and create a whole lesson around it. This is not only a great practical activity, but also a metaphorically rich exercise for the child's mind.
