In the weeks since the tragic fires on Maui, our primary focus has been taking care of our teammates, guests, family and the broader community. Our team members have done extraordinary work to ship supplies, transport first responders, raise funds, and volunteer at the Hawaii Foodbank and other organizations. We will be here as Hawaii’s hometown carrier to support for the long term. During this time, we have received hundreds of inquiries from guests asking whether it is appropriate to visit Maui now and what they should expect when they do. This first in the series of Travel Pono videos aims to answer some of those questions – through the voices of residents. 🌺 Watch the first Travel Pono Maui video here: https://lnkd.in/gwiR9_by #TravelPono #MalamaMaui

Thanks to Hawaiian Airlines for this post and the video clip. I've never been to Maui, but have visited Oahu several times. My mother grew up there. I've spent summers on Oahu and the Aloha spirit is real. I feel terrible about the fires and what's happening to the people of Maui. I don't have plans to visit Hawaii any time soon, so to support the businesses on Maui, I've been purchasing items online. Let's just say I have a few more Hawaiian shirts to my collection.

Maui has a special place in Nina and my hearts. Our first vacation was there and it continues to call. The tragedy that happened there is devastating. Our deepest sympathies go out to all who have lost loved ones. As this video shows, the spirit of Maui lives on and we will be very respectful of all that has happened as we visit there next week to see friends and see many of the upcountry areas shown here. Mahalo to all make Maui the special place it is.

Mahalo, Hawaiian Airlines, for this video. Our Hawaii-based EAP has been responding to businesses across Maui impacted by the tragic fires. We took the time as well while there to spend time (and money) in Kihei, Makawao, Kahului, and Paia. The needs of Lahaina residents are overwhelming; and the other towns across the island need our support as well as they have been hit hard by the lack of tourism. Maui is still a beautiful place to visit and mahalo to HAL for encouraging people to return. It will take time for Lahaina to recover, but traveling with pono to Maui will support the people and businesses across the island as they move toward recovery.
