Ballantine was founded in 1840 in Newark, New Jersey, by Peter Ballantine who emigrated from Scotland. Ballantine rented an old brewing site which had dated back to 1805. It was originally incorporated as the Patterson & Ballantine Brewing Company. Around 1850, Ballantine bought out his partner and purchased land near the Passaic River to brew his Scottish ale. His three sons joined the business and in 1857 the company was renamed, accordingly, as P. Ballantine and Sons. By 1879, it had become sixth-largest brewery in the U.S., twice as large as Anheuser-Busch. In the mid-1960s the company went into decline. It was losing market share to lighter lagers with less alcohol content. (Hmmm … sounds modern day familiar 🤔) Despite advertising efforts to revive the company, the owners agreed to sell the brand, the company, and all their assets … to the Falstaff Brewing Corporation. The name would be used for the next 115 years, until the company closed its brewery in 1972. And that’s part of the history of beer in America. “The best beers are the one we drink with fiends.” — Stephen Carter King Source: Beer History in America #BeerHistory in #America #NewJersey #Ballantine #ScottishAle #Falstaff #Beer #CraftBeer #NonAlcoholicBeer #Cider #Microbreweries #Taprooms #Brewpubs #ConsumerBehavior #BrandAwareness Slàinte☘️! ✦✦✦ Stephen Carter King Chief of Growth and Marketing and Strategy and ‘The Beerconomist’ & CEO of Beerconomy • Market Analyst • Speaker • Futurist & Author • with beer market trends, insights, data and forecasts Publisher: The Beerconomist

There’s little debate that West Michigan’s craft beer scene is one of the best in the country. And while Grand Rapids may hold the moniker of “Beer City, USA” — the entire region feeds into the phenomenon, including Comstock’s famous Bell’s Brewery. I gravitate to Michigan’s beachtowns — in particular, my “customized” Western Michigan Craft Beer tour. I love the unique blend of bitterness in a robust IPA, the creamy foam of a dark stout, and every shade and flavor in between. I’ll be based in Saugatuck in late May — for 10 days (it’s okay, you can hate me) and you’ll find me in many, many brewery’s from South Haven, Grand Haven, Holland, Benton Harbor, Silver Lake and many, many more from Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, St. Joseph and then some. I’d name more towns and breweries but I don’t want you to think I have a drinking problem 🤓 What are your work vacation plans this spring and/or summer? “Vacation, all I ever wanted Vacation, had to get away ...” — The Go-Go’s Source: Beerconomy #Michigan #Beachtowns #Beer #CraftBeer #NonAlcoholicBeer #Cider #Microbreweries #Taprooms #Brewpubs Slàinte☘️! ✦✦✦ Stephen Carter King Chief of Growth and Marketing and Strategy and ‘The Beerconomist’ + CEO of Beerconomy • Market Analyst • Speaker • Futurist & Author • with beer market trends, insights, data and forecasts Publisher: The Beerconomist

The craft brewery market has begun to level out. After years of growth, demand has stalled even as competition has increased, leading many brewers to seek other avenues to profitability. Given the overlaps between brewing and distilling processes, as well as continued double-digit growth in the craft distillery market, this need for diversification has led to a growing trend of the so-called brewstillery. As the brewery industry faces several challenges in the market, savvy craft beverage companies are turning to the promising model of brewstilleries. The new stream of revenue can ramp up your profits, expand your customer base, and take your operations from surviving to thriving. Along with thorough research and development strategies, you can find success by choosing a brewstillery management platform. That’s where Ekos comes in. With extensive experience in the craft beverage industry, we’re ready to help your business expand and diversify. Helping craft brewery leaders become better data-driven problem solvers and decision makers through cutting-edge data and analytics solutions.
Insightful article from Beth Demmon on looking back at 2023 and forward to next year for SD beer, including this quote from Chad Heath: "Providing breweries bring their A-game to the table in 2024, I feel it will be a good year. You can’t be a hobbyist and be successful in craft beer anymore. You have to run it like a thriving business where you invest the time and effort to make your brand well-represented.” I couldn't agree more with the sentiment that, in the maturing craft beer industry and especially the ultra-competitive markets, it is crucial to have a strong business mindset to be successful. And absolutely critical to take advantage of new technology and opportunities to make it happen. Cheers to #SDbeer in 2024!
The last time I tried to predict the future of #SDbeer, I failed to foresee that a global pandemic would throw the entire world into a tailspin from which we are only beginning to fully emerge. (Still, I was pretty on-the-nose about the South Bay beer scene exploding.) So this time, I decided to take a look back at this year’s good, bad, and prescient happenings and asked a few beer insiders what 2023 meant for San Diego’s craft beer industry. Check out my look back on San Diego Magazine: https://lnkd.in/gub2Sgx2..
