Director at Growth Scope | Helps leading liquor players to unlock hidden growth opportunities by leveraging new insight into occasions, consumers, shoppers, channels and products.
Leading Liquor brands use Pricing Insights to reveal the 'big picture' when it comes to category and retail catalogue share of voice.
The concept of double jeopardy (small market share = less customer loyalty) is factual. However, for indie, bespoke and luxury brands, penetration and shopper frequency may not be the key drivers.
Is protecting margin more important than market share? And what other factors come into play?

Did you hear about the record-breaking sale of the most expensive cask of whisky in 2019?
The Macallan 30-year-old sherry hogshead fetched a whopping HK$4.46M! 🥃🤯 And with the whisky market valued at $61.78 billion in 2021, it's no surprise that it's expected to reach $95.9 billion by 2026.

“can be inherently dangerous”
The Virginia Wine Wholesalers Association and Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association have made a statement in court document describing the products in the industry and that their members carry as "inherently dangerous". As a member of the industry, I am appalled by this description and believe it is not a position we want anyone representing us to take. While there may be great wholesalers doing a great job, it's important to disassociate ourselves from any association that supports this point of view. I urge all producers to contact their wholesalers and ask them to exit their association membership. Let's cancel membership and disassociate ourselves from any association that is damaging to our industry. Trying to defend an outdated sales channel is one thing, portraying the products we sell like this is unforgivable. #cancelmembership#wineindustry#beerindustry
Whisky of the Month: Miltonduff
Miltonduff is one of the oldest distilleries that few have heard of. For those fortunate enough to have tasted Miltonduff's superb malt, its scarcity is well-known. The primary reason for this rarity is the high demand from global blends, particularly Ballantine's, which relies heavily on Miltonduff, alongside Glenburgie.
Why Miltonduff is a Savvy Investment - Adding Miltonduff to your collection is a wise move for several reasons: its primary use in Ballantine's means it's rarely available as a single malt. Independent bottlers covet it, ensuring strong resale potential. Finally, the malt is excellent, making it slightly underpriced.
Remember, while single malts have enjoyed tremendous growth and interest this century, blends remain the primary revenue driver for whisky companies. In short, Miltonduff is a must-buy. If any casks become available, don't hesitate.

Goodbye #dryjanuary, hello continuing hot trend in live events.
Gen Z and Y have been saying for years now that they prefer non-alcoholic options at their conferences and festivals, with data backing this up from The Wall Street Journal which recently cited that "around 62% of adults under 35 drink, down from 72% two decades ago, per a recent Gallup Poll survey. That number is "likely to keep dropping since Gen Z drinks the least of any demographic," says the Journal.
No matter if your event is in-person, hybrid, or fully remote, fostering genuine human connections among attendees, is essential.
As you plan your office, off-site, or even virtual events, it's important to think inclusively. Are you considering all the diverse ways we can connect, or is alcohol taking center stage?

On Premise drinks sales were down by 5% year-on-year in the week to Saturday (25 November). However, there are reasons to be cautiously optimistic as the holiday season approaches.
CGA by NIQ’s latest Daily Drinks Tracker reveals that trading faced challenges when compared to late November 2022, which marked the beginning of the football World Cup. This resulted in significantly lower sales on Monday and Friday (20 and 24 November) in comparison to the same days last year, when England played in their first two matches of the tournament.
