2nd chance employers are so critical to supporting our communities and addressing inequity in our workplaces. The Prison Policy Initiative conducted a study that showed the #1 predictor of recidivism (the tendency for convicted offenders to reoffend) was poverty. An additional supporting study by the United States Sentencing Commission concluded that if a citizen transitioning out of the prison system can find stable employment within one year of release, the recidivism rate reduces by 40%. Providing access to stable employment to those that have a criminal history needs to be a bigger part of rehabilitating those who commit crimes. It is not talked about enough, nor are there sufficient resources in the justice system currently to support it. This work has to be done, especially to combat systematic oppression of historically marginalized groups due to the racial and ethnic disparities present in the criminal justice system. CareerSource Pinellas is helping to do that work. 👏 If your organization is a 2nd Chance Employer, or you know someone who is, please see below.
Vice President of Business Services overseeing Organizational Development and Workforce Program Management | Advocate for Veterans and Persons with Disabilities | Career Transition Coach

CareerSource Pinellas is planning this unique event on: Date: Wednesday, February 21, 2024 Time: 2-4 pm (employer set-up begins at 1 pm) Location: Enoch Davis Center 1111 18th Avenue South St. Petersburg, FL 33705 ***Registration for the Job Fair is first-come/first-served and will close when all employer spaces have been filled. Great to see!!! More prep classes for ALL military are hopefully being developed too! Hiring (off-base) is much different than most service members realize, and you don’t have as big of a network anymore either. PSA: Please have your resume when attending ANY hiring event..do not show up in a hoodie and sweatpants (your uniform isn’t even a problem..you’re at work..we know that!)…come with some type of “elevator pitch” to let me know who you are and what your looking for..and finally have confidence in what you bring to the table (pun intended haha!). Reach out to a fellow Veteran (who’s been through one/two) for advice. Your military career took mentoring and so will your civilian one! #veteran #prepclass #veteranhiring
Are you ready for the Fort Bliss Career Exploration & ACS Hiring fair? Register to attend the ACS Hiring Fair Prep Class happening July 30 09am-12pm, follow the link below for details. https://lnkd.in/g-XxspeJ

As the Massachusetts Water Works Association Operator Committee Chair, I am excited to join my fellow committee members as well as teaming up with the folks from the PR and Membership Committees to help raise awareness about the drinking water industry through education and outreach initiatives – with a heavy focus on operations. It is essential to highlight the critical role that professionals in the drinking water industry play in protecting public health and the environment. With the impending wave of retirements in the industry, the time is now to raise awareness and attract new talent to ensure the sustainability and success of the drinking water sector for future generations. By showcasing the industry's importance, rewards, and accessibility (for you high schooler parents read: low cost of entry!), we hope to inspire individuals – whether young high school students like my audience at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, or adults who may be looking to start or change their own career paths – that may not have previously considered a career in the drinking water industry – mostly because they didn’t know it existed! By participating in career fairs and sharing our knowledge and passion for the industry, we can hopefully inspire the next generation of professionals to pursue careers in the water industry. So let's continue to promote the importance of clean, safe, and accessible drinking water and encourage folks to explore the diverse and fulfilling career options available in the drinking water industry. #DrinkingWaterIndustry #CareerFairs #CleanWater #CareerOpportunities #InspireTheNextGeneration
Busy week for career fairs! A shout out to our Operator Committee Chair, Benjamin Patten for representing MWWA at the Whittier Tech Career Fair last evening. Ben is passionate about this profession and he is a great ambassador to try to recruit students into the field.
