It’s more important than ever for allies to actively give their support to LGBTQ+ communities. @HumanRightsWatch recently announced a national state of emergency for LGBTQ+ Americans. They also have some really useful information about which U.S. states are protecting–and which are encroaching on–the rights of LGBTQ+ people, plus ways that you can support the community. How to be a Pride ally? Being a Pride ally in day-to-day life involves: 1. **Listening**: Pay attention to and respect LGBTQ+ people's experiences. 2. **Using Inclusive Language**: Use correct pronouns and avoid assumptions about someone's gender or sexuality. 3. **Supporting Equality**: Stand up against discrimination and speak out if you witness homophobia or transphobia. 4. **Educating Yourself**: Learn about LGBTQ+ history and issues. 5. **Being Visible**: Display symbols of support, like wearing a rainbow pin or displaying a Pride flag. 6. **Creating Safe Spaces**: Ensure your home, workplace, and social circles are welcoming to LGBTQ+ people. 7. **Advocating**: Support policies and initiatives that promote LGBTQ+ rights. 8. **Being Respectful**: Treat everyone with kindness and respect, regardless of their gender or sexuality. #lgbtqia #pridemonth #pride #ally #lesbians, #gays #transgenders #loveislove #prideally Anisha Gothorp

👉 Tolerance is not enough. It's not a value. LGBTQ+ Allies, avoid saying: "I support the LGBTQ+ community, but..." Allies, steer clear of statements like: - I do not agree with people changing their gender - I think "all these" different gender identities are a bit much - I do not want their lifestyle to be shoved down my throat - Why do gay people need a parade? - It does not help their cause when they act so feminine - I think they should be more discrete 👉 Acceptance is understanding that we do not have to agree with how people express their own understanding of who they are. Acceptance is being curious about how we can continue to grow and connect with people that are different from us. HAPPY PRIDE, COPENHAGEN!!! #LGBTQ #Acceptance #Diversity

To answer this question, the authors completed a four-year project to investigate how LGBTQ+ individuals determine whether someone is an ally. They conducted six studies, including thousands of LGBTQ+-identified participants across the U.S., to understand the causes and effects of allyship.
