Why Is the White House White? The White House's iconic white color has nothing to do with the British burning it down in 1814, as many think. When the building was completed in 1798, it was coated in lime-based whitewash to protect its porous sandstone from freezing during winter. This practical solution helped preserve the structure and fill in cracks in the stone. The name "White House" was in common use by 1812, but it wasn't until 1818 that the building was permanently painted with white lead paint. It wasn't until President Theodore Roosevelt's administration in 1901 that the name became official. This combination of function and symbolism has ensured the White House remains a distinct and enduring symbol of the U.S. government. . . . . . . . . #WhiteHouseHistory #HistoricalPreservation #ArchitectureFacts #BuildingConservation #CulturalHeritage #PresidentialHistory #USHistory #ArchitecturalDesign #PaintPreservation #HistoricBuildings

Brass cladded doors are an embodiment of elegance and strength. The fusion of robust teak wood with the opulence of brass cladding results in a door that is not only durable but also visually stunning. The brass elements catch the light, creating a warm, inviting glow that enhances the door's intricate carvings. These doors are often found adorning the entrances of ancient fortresses and grand havelis, where they stand as sentinels of history, safeguarding the legacy of a bygone era. https://lnkd.in/dxu3QbV4
