Project Management Leader | Orchestrating High-Impact Initiatives, Driving Innovation, and Delivering Strategic Results
As college searches are beginning and commencing, have you considered the importance of attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU )? These institutions have a rich history of providing a supportive and inclusive environment for students of color, and they continue to play a vital role in shaping the future of our society. Many HBCUs face significant challenges when it comes to endowment. Unfortunately, these institutions often have limited financial resources, impacting their ability to provide the same academic and extracurricular opportunities as their non-HBCU/PWI counterparts 😥 . Here's the thing: YOUR CHOICE to attend an HBCU can make a real difference! You're not only investing in your own education, but you're also supporting the institution and its mission to provide opportunities for future generations. Here are just a few of my reasons why you should attend: 🔹Diverse and inclusive community: HBCUs provide a supportive and inclusive environment where you can connect with students from different backgrounds and cultures. 🔹 Networking opportunities: HBCUs have a strong network of alumni and industry connections, providing you with opportunities to build valuable relationships that can help launch your career. 🔹 Unique cultural experiences: HBCUs offer a rich cultural experience, immersing you in the history and culture of the African American community. Attending an HBCU is not just about getting a quality education; it's about being part of a legacy that has shaped our society. As a graduate of THEE Alabama State University 🐝 , I can attest that by attending an HBCU, you're investing in yours and our community's future. #HBCU #BlackExcellence #CollegeBound #InvestInYourFuture #AlabamaState #BamaState

It's concerning to see Talladega College, a revered institution within the HBCU community, facing significant challenges. This emphasizes the crucial need for strategic foresight, financial prudence, and accountability, areas where some HBCUs have historically struggled. As an HBCU alum and former administrator, I understand the frustration caused by recurring mismanagement cycles. To ensure the lasting success of HBCUs, a shift towards strategic and visionary leadership is essential. To overcome these challenges, HBCUs should focus on key strategies: - Setting clear goals and metrics aligned with the institution's mission - Investing in leadership development and crisis management - Involving stakeholders for diverse perspectives and shared commitment - Enhancing financial oversight through regular audits and governance checks - Diversifying revenue streams beyond tuition - Controlling costs and prioritizing spending for student success - Promoting institutional identity and global reach through unique value propositions - Concentrating on academic excellence and expanding online learning opportunities By adopting these strategies, HBCUs can strengthen their foundation, foster growth, and uphold competitiveness in the global educational arena.

President and Chief Executive Officer of PGIM, the Investment Management Business of Prudential Financial, Inc.
Historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) comprise just 3% of America's higher education institutions, yet confer over 15% of all bachelor's degrees awarded to Black students. There are many amazing elements to their role, but one that is less understood is the status of their endowments. Currently, no HBCU endowment exceeds $1 billion, and the majority manage less than $100 million. With strong endowment funds, colleges and universities can fund campus improvements, offer grants and scholarships, and keep tuition increases at bay, ensuring high-quality education is affordable and accessible. The asset management industry is in a unique position to work directly with HBCUs to strengthen their endowments in areas such as risk management and asset allocation, amplifying the impact of their investments and creating greater institutional stability for generations to come. PGIM and the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) recently partnered together to publish a first-of-its-kind study on the opportunities for HBCUs to manage their endowments and how asset managers can play a larger role in helping. https://on.pru/3OBtVxL #HBCUs #AssetManagement #Endowments

“Despite only representing 3% of all four-year institutions, [HBCUs] graduate 17% of all bachelor’s degrees and 24% of all STEM-related bachelor’s degrees for Black students, enrolling ‘more than twice as many Pell Grant-eligible students as non-HBCUs.’ Charging tuition rates that are on average nearly 30% less than at comparable non-HBCUs, these schools are among the best return on our nation’s post-secondary education investments. However, HBCUs have historically been underfunded and continue to be.” Writing for Diverse: Issues In Higher Education, Thurgood Marshall College Fund president and CEO, Dr. Harry L. Williams, describes how investing in HBCUs can help increase higher education enrollment among Black students: https://lnkd.in/e8-qsAfB

It's time to recognize the incredible foundation that historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have provided for countless successful careers. However, it's also important to acknowledge that some of their current programs may not be keeping pace with the rapidly evolving job market. Many students enroll in college with the ambition of acquiring advanced skills that will set them apart in their future careers. Yet, this pursuit often comes with a hefty price tag and the burden of student debt. The traditional curriculum was crafted for an era dominated by industrial labor. But as we step into the technology age, many programs have yet to adapt. The good news? There are abundant high-paying job opportunities—some exceeding $70k annually—that only require certifications and experience, often obtained at a fraction of the cost of a traditional degree. Talk about a smart investment! While we cherish the value of a formal education, we must recognize that in today's fast-paced world, convenience reigns supreme. That's why our educational system needs to operate with efficiency. Click, learn, graduate—this streamlined approach can open doors to entry-level positions while enabling individuals to continue advancing their skills through tailored degree programs. As African Americans, we're confronted with a growing gap in technological advancement. It's time for a rescue mission. Access to cutting-edge education that reflects the digital age and anticipates future technological trends is vital for our community's advancement. That's where Skilldora comes in. We're passionate about integrating AI into educational curricula, empowering HBCU students with valuable skills and addressing potential biases in the job market. Oftentimes, while we are patiently waiting on things, we focus on what we CAN'T DO and not on what we CAN DO! As I patiently wait for the Internal Review Board's approval/feedback of my dissertation study on the Impact of Black Male Teachers, I'll tell you what I CAN DO! Introducing: "Road to Excellence: A Journey Through HBCUs with Young Dreamers" by T. Elaine Brown 📘 This historical fiction book is a powerful narrative that follows the journey of a determined Black boy. It's a story of resilience and unwavering determination as he sets out to dispel myths and challenge negative stereotypes surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). In the face of skepticism from his teacher, who believes HBCUs are subpar and not good enough, our young protagonist embarks on a quest to prove otherwise. This is more than just a book! It is a testament to the incredible potential within each of us to defy expectations and overcome obstacles. It is an inspiring tale that highlights the excellence and significance of HBCUs, encouraging young and not so young readers to question preconceived notions and embrace the opportunities they offer. Be on the lookout for book signing information as it is currently in the planning stages and has not been finalized. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting event, where I aim to extend an invitation to organizations that serve students, as well as students and parents interested in HBCUs. My hope is to create an engaging experience that includes: A discussion of the book's themes A panel discussion featuring inspiring HBCU alumni Insights from HBCU admissions representatives I firmly believe this book needs to be in the hands of all young people. For those who share my passion for education, diversity, and the importance of HBCUs, there's also an opportunity to sponsor a certain number of books at a discounted rate to gift to students who will be in attendance at the book signing event. Your support can make a significant impact on young lives and contribute to a more inclusive future. Inbox for details. I invite you to explore "Road to Excellence: A Journey Through HBCUs with Young Dreamers" on Amazon and join me in this journey to inspire and empower the next generation of HBCU enthusiasts. Let's make a difference, one story at a time! 🌟 #RoadToExcellence #HBCU #Education #Diversity #YoungDreamers #BookSigning #SponsorshipOpportunity
