Due to the demand for more practice-ready law school graduates, alternatives to the Bar Exam and LSAT are gaining popularity. These alternatives are also being considered to help ease the access-to-justice gap and reduce racial disparities historically found in testing results. The ABA has authorized five more law schools to use JD-Next, an alternative to the LSAT, bringing the total to 57. https://lnkd.in/g2-3K6Vm

MAY 20, 2024 - ABA JOURNAL: "After receiving pushback from law school deans and with many logistical questions looming, the council of the ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar voted to continue examining what standards are necessary to start fully accrediting online-only law schools at its May 17 meeting in Chicago. Currently, ABA standards state that only law schools with brick-and-mortar campuses can become accredited, and only fully accredited schools can apply to offer fully online JD programs. That excludes online law schools starting from scratch." https://lnkd.in/gBXprd4z

Some $$Quotes: “Law schools have been under increasing pressure to produce practice-ready lawyers for more than a decade, but as many top law schools launch new programs, it seems a tipping point has arrived.” “Law schools have always taught students to ‘think like lawyers,’ but increasingly schools are being called upon to train students to act like lawyers, as well.” https://lnkd.in/e5iWb-4A #legaltechnology #legaltech Abdi Shayesteh

Attorney & Director of Resource Development at Prairie State Legal Services Inc. (all posts are mine and not my employer's)
Go Professor (now Judge) Lee! Professor Lee trained me how to interview and prep clients, how to prepare for trial, and how to think thoughtfully about how my practice will impact the world around me and my clients’ lives. Now she’s out there applying those principles from the bench. Reassuring news!
