Know how to do hands-only CPR. Know where the AED is. Make sure it’s accessible during practices and games (the field house or the main office shouldn’t be the only places one is available). Encourage your students to learn CPR and not wait until the final semester to meet that requirement! Don’t know how to use an AED? That’s ok. Turn it on and simply follow the instructions! Healthcare workers know how to use them but they’re meant for the random person in public to be able to use! It will talk to you and tell you what to do, and if for some reason it doesn’t then 911 dispatch will fill in the blanks!
💔 I hate this time of the year - when we start to see far too many headlines like this one. I can't say it enough - make sure your kids' coaches are prepared to handle a cardiac emergency - make sure AEDs (defibrillators) are available at all practices and games. Make sure someone knows CPR. Nobody should be joining this crappy club our family is in. The Peyton Walker Foundation has resources available for coaches, players and families. https://lnkd.in/e_Puv5Sv

In case you didn’t hear, there’s exciting news about athlete safety in Michigan! 🏈🏀⚽ In a move to protect young athletes from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), Michigan has recently adopted three critical policies. These measures, including maintaining CPR and AED certification for high school coaches and implementing cardiac emergency response plans in schools, are vital to safeguarding our youth athletes. NCYS is a proud member of the Smart Heart Sports Coalition. We stand together with Governor Whitmer and the Michigan legislature in our shared commitment to prioritizing youth athlete safety. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Damar Hamlin's Chasing M's Foundation and the National Football League (NFL) Foundation for their significant contribution of 50 ZOLL Medical Corporation AEDs to high schools across the state. This collective effort is a testament to our shared dedication to athlete safety. Let's not stop here. Let's keep championing initiatives that protect our young athletes' health and well-being. Our continued support and advocacy can truly make a difference. Together, we have the power to shape a safer future for our youth athletes. Did you know that just 3-4 headers a day can add up to 15,000 by the age of 16? It's a common misconception that football-related CTE is only an issue for older, retired footballers. The reality is that CTE begins as an outcome of head impacts during youth. ⚽🐘 Early intervention can help prevent long-term damage. That's why we are dedicated to spreading awareness and safe practices via our HeadSAFE Education programme.
