Everything I do should reduce the physical and mental stress in mankind and better their living standards.
Sports is the most neglected field by businesses in the developing countries with everyone expecting the government to do it. Unfortunately that is always too little. Keep youth engaged productively will go a long way in bringing purpose to a country’s youth and less attention on undesirable activities. We are trying in a small way to increase the awareness among businesses to the importance of investing in sport as social enterprise. https://lnkd.in/gvxzrUud

A powerful video for all of us who are involved in youth sports or who are parents! Learn what you should tell your kids...... ➡ The single greatest effect on performance is an athlete’s state of mind ➡ Youth sports used to be about children competing against other children; now it is often adults competing against other adults through their children ➡ Children play sports because it is fun; winning comes in way down the list ➡ Children quit sports when they don’t get to play, and when winning becomes more important than enjoyment ➡ 90% of children would rather play on a losing team than sit the bench on a winning team ➡ Competition is important, but being competitive comes from putting the needs and priorities of our children first ➡ We can all start changing youth sports for the better by learning five simple words (watch to learn what they are) #changethegame

Curious about the slate of exhibition sports that will be featured in LA in 2028 and how they rank in interest among kids? As we reported in Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities State of Sport report (available for download at https://lnkd.in/ga4RubqD) the percentage of kids showing an interest in each sport is as follows: - football 22% (9th most popular) - baseball 16% (13th most popular) - cricket 7% (22nd most popular) - lacrosse 5% (tied for 25th most popular) - softball 5% (tied for 25th most popular) Squash didn’t appear in kids’ list of preferred sports. In comparison, soccer, swimming and basketball rank as the three most preferred sports at 62%, 44% and 43%, respectively.

As we celebrate Joshua Cheptegei's Olympic triumph, I'm reminded of the untapped potential in our primary schools. The Ministry of Education and Sports' policy limiting sports participation to only those under 12 years is concerning. Many talented children above this age are denied the opportunity to explore their abilities, potentially stifling their path to success. I urge the Ministry to review this policy, considering the benefits of sports in developing well-rounded individuals. Let's give every child a chance to discover their talents, regardless of age. By doing so, we can nurture more champions like Cheptegei and empower our youth to reach their full potential. #ReviewThePolicy #SportsForAll #EmpowerYouth

Write it down 📝 Youth participation is about active involvement in decision-making. Youth involvement is often equated with athlete representation, overlooking ❗️ broader youth engagement within organisational decision-making processes. 📷️ Youth in action activity, Young Delegate Marie Youth🫱🏽🫲🏿Sport #youthsport

I've been emailed a few times to comment on the yesterday's incident at a junior rugby match in Sydney. Here are a couple of thoughts: There is no place for violent adult and spectator behaviour in youth sport. Period. However, the answer to this issue is not (a) banning all parents from games, (b) creating more policy (e.g. codes of behaviour), or (c) threating adults and spectators with fines/punishments. I have written about this several times (Elliott & Drummond, 2015, Elliott, 2021, Kwon et al., 2020). We also need to avoid assuming too much about this scenario. In taking this position, I do not reduce, dismiss, minimise, or reject the negative and long-term impacts of violence in youth sport. However, there are often times too many conclusions and 'recommendations' (e.g. 'every parent needs to do X or Y') offered before fully understanding the situation. Good science compels thoroughness. Finally, parent and adult involvement in youth sport is complex. We (researchers, practitioners, policy makers) must do better than reproduce the same rhetorics that dominante public discourse (e.g. 'parent's should know better', 'it's not about winning, it's about fun') in an effort to meaningfully advance policy and practice. Fortunately, there are a lot of good solutions and ideas available for clubs and families.
