A1) Co-creating learning support plans with students - nobody knows how they learn best like they do! Asking them what strategies teachers have used in the past that helped them learn and what areas they struggle with the most have been eye-opening and really helped me with writing their support plans to share with teachers. It doesn’t make sense to put strategies into an ILP/IEP if the student doesn’t find it helpful 😂 This collaboration gives students ownership of the plans too and they know exactly what they can ask teachers to do to support their learning. Some students found it difficult at first to articulate different strategies teachers used in the past, but I think talking through some of those helped them develop their metacognitive awareness too.
