"Topsides" related CCS solutions are becoming key with the advance of CCS. Whether that’s offshore facilities for CO2 Transportation and Storage hubs, or post combustion capture from offshore gas driven power generation. In addition to CCS expertise, achieving this also requires transferrable topside engineering and project management skills. I was delighted to discuss this important subject at the recent Topsides UK 2024 in Aberdeen. It was not that long ago that decommissioning activities started appearing on companies' radars, and it quickly appeared to be an interesting topic; for once, it was not really known if the ageing infrastructure was originally designed to be dismantled, followed by where to send and what to do with scrap material, lastly it almost is a pure cost for companies, hence the efforts (pushed also by the Energy Transition) to re-purpose the aging infrastructure. It does not really matter from which angle you look at it, it is going to be an interesting exercise (not only for the oil & gas industry), where innovation and expertise will play an important role. #decommissioning #oilandgas #aginginfrastructure #repurposing
