A couple of weeks ago, my colleagues and I started our first-ever fundraising campaign! It is our first time exploring donations and collective fundraising as a source of funds to support our work and we have been learning a lot. It is definitely not easy, but as it has the potential to amplify the impact of our work, we decided to put a lot of time and energy into the process. Our campaign, #FleeToSurvive, focuses on our work with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and asylum-seekers in Mexico. Our team provides legal orientation and representation, comprehensive support, and technical advice that can have a direct impact on the lives of asylum-seekers and IDPs. However, even though we'll continue doing this work, there are some things that would make a huge difference and we currently cannot pay for. For example: > Many of the people we represent and support are not in Mexico City and face significant economic constraints. Thus, meeting with them, providing accompaniment and representation, and having them present at key moments are ongoing challenges. > Even though our work is entirely free for IDPs and asylum-seekers, the issuance of documents, migratory regularizations fees, transportation to attend meetings, and other expenses that come up during the process represent additional costs for individuals who are typically already facing economic hardships, and we would like to help them with that.
