We are all taught that for efficient price discovery in any market you need participants who have different motivations and objectives and therefore there is a role for speculators, hedgers and arbitrageurs. A long time ago I used to trade currency derivatives as part of my role, and what we were doing would categorise as speculation. This change in the currency derivatives segment in India would effectively eliminate at least one category and more likely two. Liquidity is naturally going to take a knock and the increased costs will likely be felt by whoever is left to trade... #usdinr
