The ISD in Celina, TX, is preparing for the future — on a foundation secured by VoidForm. In just one year, from 2022 to 2023, the population of this formerly sleepy Texas town has grown by a staggering 26.6 percent. This has meant Celina's ISD has had to deploy a rapid expansion plan to ensure enough schools to accommodate its predicted 10,000+ student population by 2028 — 130 percent more students than they have today. VoidForm has partnered with Miller Sierra Contractors, Inc. to install nearly 60,000 sq ft of void systems below the slab of one of Celina's brand new Elementary Schools (No. 5), which is set to open in the fall of 2025. With VoidForm now installed under the slab, the community has mitigated the risk of structural damage for the school's functional lifespan. #Construction #engineering #structuralengineering

It all begins with a long range plan and vision, but the most valuable ingrediant for success is leadership and commitment to considering student needs first as a guiding principle throughout the process. #studentsfirst #educationalexperience #longrangeplan #schooldesign #dlrgroup
Over the course of four years, Barrington 220 School District in Illinois has dedicated its efforts to enhancing the educational experience through ambitious bond projects. This involves improvements across 12 schools including one high school, two middle schools, eight elementary schools, and an early education center. This expansion addresses the growing enrollment needs, marking the end of a decade-long reliance on temporary portable classrooms. Students have the freedom to choose where they work thanks to seamless connections between main learning spaces, adjacent breakout areas, and collaborative corridors. Great work being done by Trust for Public Land Cooling the urban environment is good for people, animals and the planet
We’re thrilled to be featured in The Washington Post for our work transforming schoolyards into cooler, greener spaces: https://wapo.st/3TrQs2p #CommunitySchoolyards are more than play spaces—they reduce heat risks, enhance student health, support learning, and provide essential park space for communities. As temperatures rise, our efforts to replace asphalt with trees, shade structures, and nature-rich play areas is more urgent than ever—and our work isn’t complete until every schoolyard offers these vital benefits.

One of our client's campus had outgrown its facility, and a replacement was necessary due to existing site grades and other complications. Below is an example of planning for successful phasing to allow an elementary school to function while construction is being completed. * Phase 1 - Relocation & Removal, Add Core Facilities: Set a temporary playground on the ball field and remove four portable buildings to provide a two-story facility with core spaces and ten classrooms. * Phase 2- Demolition & Removal, Add New Classroom Wing: Begin demolishing gymnasium, cafeteria, kitchen and portables, and relocate users to the existing structure. Core functions can transfer to the new facility. * Phase 3- Demolition, Add New Playground: Demolish the existing building to leave space for a new playground. Expand the north parking lot to provide parking for visitors on the south side, along with a kindergarten drop-off. New buildings will tie in with the existing kindergarten building to create a well-organized and safe environment for students teachers while keeping the neighborhood aesthetic. #VA_Architects

🌳 **How Trust for Public Land Is Leading the Fight Against Heat Islands** 🌳 Climate change is making our cities hotter, and no place feels the impact more than our schools. That's why schools across the U.S. are transforming their playgrounds into green spaces. Projects to plant trees, install shade structures, and remove asphalt are becoming urgent. This isn't just about making schoolyards more inviting – it's about protecting our children from the extreme heat that can turn asphalt surfaces into dangerous Trust for Public Land is leading g this work. We have renovated more than 300 school playgrounds in 23 states, focusing on turning asphalt jungles into green spaces for children to play safely. In low-income urban neighborhoods, where trees are scarce and temperatures soar, the work is critical. By planting trees and reducing pavement, Trust for Public Land is helping to mitigate the urban heat island effect – where concrete and asphalt absorb and amplify heat. 🌿 The impact goes beyond aesthetics*– these green schoolyards also improve community well-being, reduce stormwater runoff, and enhance outdoor learning spaces. 👉 What do you think about the shift towards greener schoolyards? #ClimateAction #UrbanGreening #TrustForPublicLand #HeatIslands #SchoolTransformation #ClimateResilience
