Absolutely aligned with the point Alhad Sir. 💯 Unfair practice of not paying interns by some architects and firms sets a wrong benchmark in the service industry. This practice encourages prospects and clients to negotiate on fees, assuming architects can get work done from interns for free. It has also come to light that some renowned retailers and companies refuse to pay advances or POs to consultants and vendors, expecting support until project completion and only paying after several follow-ups. This is like exploiting service providers under the guise of "project opportunities and more projects" Architects and interior designers taking opportunities without payments is unethical and should be avoided. Similarly, any user enjoying services without making necessary payments is unacceptable, unethical, and should not be entertained. Fair practice would help create a better working environment in the industry for future architects. Let's strive for #fairtreatment, #ethicalbehavior, and #professionalism in #architecture and #interiors.

I cannot believe it is that time of year again already! As the coordinator of Lycopodium's Summer Vacation Program, I am so excited to run this experience for a third time and assist in providing a meaningful 12 weeks for all of our students. Once the cohort is confirmed, my primary role is to organise the opportunity for each student to contribute to a real-world project with the assistance of a dedicated mentor. (Plus, I can't argue that scheduling the social events, team building, and site/vendor visits is also a plus... 😎). Today is #NationalInternDay & in honor of that, we wanted to shout our three amazing summer interns: Juliette Michaels, Trek Salzer & Haydn Sage! We asked them what being an intern at Nautilus Solar means to them & what their future #career goals are. Let's hear from them: Juliette: "I’m so grateful to be spending my summer as a small part of a great team that has gone out of their way to make me feel included and supported. I’m constantly inspired by the people around me, and their commitment to making a measurable difference in the world. I’m very interested in the intersectionality of community solar as an industry; driving growth in #sustainability and financial accessibility efforts. I know that supporting a mission I believe in is a priority for me as I move forward in my career." Trek: "As an intern at Nautilus, I get to be part of an *energetic* (pun intended) group of people working hard to make #solar energy accessible for people across the country. Going forward, I am looking to build a career in the renewable energy industry and I want to contribute to the continued global energy transition." Haydn: "Being an intern at Nautilus this summer has allowed me to gain a deeper and more nuanced understanding of renewable energy. I am learning something new every day through the knowledge team and this experience has only deepened my passion for sustainability and renewable energy. "Why did you want to become an engineer?" We continue our E-Week celebration by shining a light on Brynna Bartlett, EI. Brynna joined the team full-time two years ago after interning with Matthews | DCCM during her final two semesters at UNF. Describe your job in one sentence As a civil engineer, I design stormwater management facilities and lift stations. What's something you enjoy doing outside of work? I enjoy playing pickleball outside of work. Why did you want to become an engineer? When I was interning at a prosthetics office in college, I realized I was drawn to the design aspects of the field which is why I shifted my attention to engineering. There is something so cool about designing a product and seeing it constructed. Surprising or fun fact about yourself. I have trained two service dogs. Any advice for STEM students/future engineers? Summer has arrived and newbies are joining your projects. Go back in time and recall your first days in construction. The jobsite looks and sounds chaotic. The jargon used on site sounds like a foreign language. Here is a recent quote from a young field engineer - "As a novice in the industry, I felt an overall uncertainty about all the details. I had to learn on the fly - leaving me quietly Googling terms or asking embarrassing questions to my superintendent." We're asking new interns and engineers to navigate a complex construction environment while also performing important tasks. For the sake of safety, production, quality and all the other critical factors on a project, put yourself in their shoes and take time to train and orient your new folks this summer.
