🍇 It’s late June in Northern California wine country, and the 2024 vintage is off and running and fruit set is nearly complete! 🌱 In viticulture, “fruit set” is the period when the flowers on the grapevines transform into tiny, green grape berries. This phase is essential because it determines the number of berries per cluster, directly impacting the yield and quality of the final product. During fruit set, winemakers carefully manage the vineyard to ensure the developing grapes have the best conditions to thrive, focusing on sunlight exposure, air circulation, and optimal nutrition. This meticulous care helps set the stage for ideal ripeness, color, and acidity in the grapes. 🍷 This phase mirrors the "foundation-building" stage in our leadership and career development. Is wine style linked to the place in todays climate? Entire Balkans had an early grape harvest this season. In some cases even 5 weeks earlier than the previous season. In a span of 6 weeks in a single season many wine grape varieties mature. Everything from Sauvignon Blanc to Petit Verdot would be ready. With this much variability between the two seasons the ripening conditions are so much different. Aromatic profile will correspond to that. Is the wine style tied to a place at all? Or winemakers need to make wanders?

A steady stream of engaging information is what the team needs! ⬇ The lifecycle of a grapevine is a fascinating journey that directly influences the quality and character of wine. It begins in early spring when the vines awaken from dormancy, and small buds on the vine start to swell and eventually burst into new shoots. As temperatures rise, these shoots grow rapidly, developing leaves and, later, flower clusters. By mid-summer, the flowers have been pollinated, usually by the wind, leading to the formation of tiny green grape berries. Over the following weeks, these berries go through "veraison," a process where they soften and gain color—red or purple for red varieties and golden for white. This phase marks the onset of sugar accumulation, essential for fermentation. By late summer or early fall, the grapes reach full maturity, measured by sugar, acid, and tannin levels, making them ready for harvest. After harvesting, the vine's leaves change color and fall, and the plant enters a period of rest, storing energy in its roots to survive the winter and prepare for the next growing season.
