I would make moves by the end of THIS WEEK to request their support for a potential internship! At the end of your email, you can offer to follow up with your recommender (if they agree) with a preliminary cover letter (even if it is a detailed outline) and some bullet points of potential ways they can highlight your achievements in their recommendation. Some instructors are on nine-month contracts, so they may be checking email less frequently -- if you believe an important recommender's response may be delayed, stay in touch with the internship coordinators (myself and my colleague Ana Gamboa) You can use your recommender's response time to consider what department you'd like to work in, what skills you want to either GROW or HIGHLIGHT, and how it will affect your future. MORE INTERNSHIPS WILL BE POSTED LATER THIS AFTERNOON! Use this time before they're live to write down a list of the things you'll need for a complete application!

Yes please!THANK YOU for saying it about damn time. Interns are not free labor; we are the ones the companies have to catch up to; we are the target audience of at least 65% of businesses and guess what we have to survive in the same economy as you are, so for God's sake, give us the money, not the benefits. As much as we love the "networking opportunities," "free goodies," or "exposure," we need cash too. The number of people in higher positions who just expect us to believe that money ain't that important and that we should be grateful for the opportunity in the first place is just pathetic. We are the future leaders; we have the potential that you (the people in power) need to tap into, so this is a request to please handle that kind of responsibility with grace and practicality and to not take advantage of our "lack of experience" or naivety.

You expect them to be there 9-5 in-office at least a few times a week IN THE CITY? If you're getting trained, managing systems, being a key member in a team AND on the company comms channel– pay them. No babes, we aren't doing that anymore... Great opportunity to #intern with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) #communications team at a crucial time for public service media in #europe. Public service media (PSM) is broadcasting made, financed and controlled by the public, for the public. The EBU represents PSMs (including RTE) in 56 countries. Collectively they reach over 1 billion people, broadcasting in more than 160 languages. Is PSM perfect? Nope ... but it's the best model we have, and when it's well-funded (and well run) it correlates with higher degrees of press freedom, lower levels of extremism and better control of corruption. It's worth protecting, particularly right now when AI technology (in the wrong hands) is fanning the flames of disinformation. On a recent visit to Universal Studios Hollywood, I saw this letter casually hung on a wall where no one seemed to stop and take notice of it. It's a rejection letter. To Steven Spielberg. For a summer internship he wanted in 1965. It appears Mr. Spielberg waited until late May to apply for a summer internship. Come on, Steven! #amateurhour But despite its tardiness, his query clearly made an impression with its passion -- and therefore, he earned a little dangling carrot from Universal. Not what he wanted, but an opportunity nonetheless. I share this letter as a reminder to all of the students out there that: -- A no today isn't always a no tomorrow. -- You have to really want it (even more than the next person). -- You need to resist the cookie cutter approach and write a compelling cover letter that denotes your interest in the company is genuine and well-researched. -- Keeping in touch is critical. -- Giving up isn't an option when it's your dream career. #internships #careeradvice

Great internship opportunity 

I was shocked when I read this statistic 😱 What surprised me the most was that no one had told me this before. Throughout my first 2 years studying fashion at Uni I always knew I needed to get experience in the industry. But 90% of the internships I found were unpaid 🙃 + They were either in London or Manchester. Meaning I would have to relocate to a more expensive city. When I was researching unpaid internships for this post I stumbled on some surprising data. → Creatives who took an unpaid internship were more likely to be paid LESS in their first role compared to creatives who had no experience Even though unpaid internships are illegal, they still make up a big proportion of work experience in the creative industries.
