🔬 Understanding Multiple Sclerosis: Enhancing Patient Care and Treatment 🔬 Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex and challenging disease that affects individuals worldwide. This condition arises when the immune system starts attacking the nerves, leading to the disruption of nerve signal transmission. The consequences of MS can vary greatly, from mild to severe impairments in motor function and sensory perception. Living with MS means navigating a unique set of symptoms and disease progression, making personalized management essential. Physicians play a critical role in monitoring disease progression and recommending effective treatments. Regular patient check-ins become crucial as they enable physicians to understand and evaluate the impact of symptoms, including fatigue, on daily activities and overall quality of life. By strengthening communication between physicians and patients, we can enhance our understanding of MS and facilitate the development of tailored treatment approaches. Let's continue working together to improve the lives of individuals affected by this insidious disease. #MultipleSclerosisAwareness #PatientCare #DiseaseManagement

Very cool to see Oura's upcoming Cardiovascular Age feature in a balanced and appropriately critical Wall Street Journal piece 😊 👌 The article mentions some findings from behavioural studies that have shown that using "heart age" as a risk communication tool (vs. the more traditional risk calculators) is not unproblematic. Studies show that heart age should be combined with other strategies and it might cause some trust issues (it might be suspicious as to where the age metric comes from). It's easy to agree with these concerns, which is why we've made conscious effort to accompany our upcoming cardiovascular age feature with VO2max tracking - a well-known tool for reducing arterial ageing. We've also produced lots of educational content explaining where the metric comes from. There's also a great quote in the WSJ article by associate professor Carissa Bonner (Univ Sydney): “Your chronological age is probably a more reliable indicator of health risks than current measures of biological age” Certainly so. Chronological age is more reliable than cholesterol or blood pressure, too, but we still measure those. Unlike chronological age, other risk factors are modifiable, and none is intended to stand above the others on its own.
