“I’m feeling stuck, but I’ll just power through so I can get this done.”: 🪫 “I’m feeling stuck, so I’m going to take a short break.”: 🔋 Stress, pressure, and expectations employees face are culminating in burnout, which is making itself seen in their mental and physical health. According to our recent Workforce State of Mind report, 98% of respondents stated that work has negatively impacted their personal lives – but if workplaces encouraged taking breaks and setting stronger boundaries, employees might not feel so mentally and physically depleted by the end of a work day. Hello, mental well-being champions from RMIT, partners, industry, Earth, and beyond! Headspace recently published a report based on a survey of over 2,000 employees, business leaders, and managers to evaluate the latest trends in workplace mental health. The survey found that work-related stress affects employees' personal lives, and their relationships with co-workers, managers, and leaders play a significant role in their mental and emotional well-being. The report highlights some key findings, including: 77% of employees state that work-related stress negatively impacts their physical health. Only 24% of HR leaders say managers must take mental health-specific training. 53% of employees say work has positively impacted them by helping them find a community of people with similar backgrounds and experiences. It also explores how companies can encourage employees to set healthy boundaries between their work life and personal life, the benefits of fostering a sense of community among employees, the importance of equipping managers with the training and resources to support their team's mental health, and how employers can build employee trust and lead with transparency. When you WFH, work stress and home stress can feel like one and the same. According to our sixth annual Workforce State of Mind report, nearly half (47%) of employees and two-thirds (66%) of CEOs say that the majority of their stress or all of their stress comes from work, rather than from their personal lives, which tends to linger after hours. Practice these transition tips to separate work life from home life: 💻 Try to establish a routine. “Clock in” at the same time each morning and leave your workstation entirely when you’re done. ⏰ Set a timer for the workday’s end. While you may not always be able to log off at the same time every day, it helps to set a boundary for your free time. 🚶 Start a “clocking out” ritual. Pick an activity, like going for a walk, to transition from work to leisure time. 🍝 Make post-work plans. Grab dinner with a friend or pursue a hobby—anything away from your desk. ✨ Remember: rest is productive. Your best self and brightest ideas require downtime. Do you have any “clocking out” rituals to avoid feeling work stress after hours? Share them in the comments, and then check out our Workforce State of Mind report to learn more about this year’s employee mental health trends and how to make our workplaces happier and healthier:

I know from personal experience that work stress can create a lasting impact on our mental health, physical health, and even our relationships with friends and family. During my time in academia, I learned the hard way that burnout can become cyclical, and that it must be addressed head-on. Headspace 2024 Workforce State of Mind report found that 77% of employees report work stress has negatively impacted their physical health, and nearly 40% said it has contributed to serious mental health challenges, such as substance use or suicidal ideation. It’s time for companies to create workplaces that prioritize professional longevity, and move beyond a focus on “work-life balance.” This is something we’re continuously discussing and working towards at Headspace – how do we foster a culture that not only leads to minimal disruption outside of work, but also empowers employees to honor and meet their needs at work and in their personal life for the betterment of their overall health? This is critical for all of our employees - and in particular, for our providers as they care for our millions of members around the world.
