Here’s a science-backed tip as you’re planning out your summer travels: Don’t blow all the PTO in one go. Frequent and short breaks recharge the mind and body far more effectively than a single, long break, so a few extended weekends (rather than one two-week stint) might be just what you need to maximize your enjoyment of time off.
Great tip. Another one is have a open discussion with your manager/company on your annual PTO goals. Transparency can have a positive impact at work!
This is such valuable advice! taking short, frequent breaks is more rejuvenating than one long vacation.
Yes!!! I thought it was just a quirk of mine but I love mini vacations so much more than a long one. I tend to schedule a four-day weekend every few months, and am so grateful to work for a company which encourages us to use our PTO. PTO is a benefit that employees should feel empowered to take as needed, without guilt trips and without having to work insane hours before/after the time off to make up for being out of the office.
I did this on accident and am glad to know it was a happy accident in the end!
So true! Long, lazy weekends can fix a lot! Headspace
I agree! I love short breaks throughout the year to recharge. Short breaks throughout the year give me the opportunity to try new places and activities. 😎
Well said! We’re not built to work 40hrs for 50 weeks straight. Some shorter weeks here and there keep it manageable.
Love what you're doing

2moWe don't have a problem deciding in Australia where our paid leave entitlements are Annual Leave (Vacation time) - 4 weeks per year, Long Service Leave (after 10 years service in NSW) - 8 weeks plus 9 paid days for public holidays each year. Plus we have 10 days per year that can be used for sick leave or carer's leave (again paid). :-)
