🎉 As we gear up to welcome another new year, let’s take a fun trip down memory lane to the infamous Y2K bug! 🐞 #ThrowbackTech 👩💻 In the late 90s, IT professionals had a huge party pooper to deal with - the Millennium Bug! 🎊💻 It wasn’t about confetti and countdowns but about codes and corrections. Why? Because our beloved computers were about to throw a century-sized tantrum at the stroke of midnight, 2000! #Y2KChallenge 🔍 The problem was simple yet daunting: many computer systems were programmed to read only the last two digits of a year. So, ‘99’ was all fine and dandy, but ‘00’? The systems were about to get a 100-year flashback, thinking it’s 1900! 🕰️ #TimeTravelGlitch 💼 Imagine the chaos - from banks to flight systems, everything could have gone haywire. But here’s where our IT superheroes stepped in! 🦸♂️🦸♀️ Armed with code, coffee, and sheer determination, they worked round the clock to patch systems, update software, and basically save the day. #TechHeroes 🎉 And guess what? When the clock struck midnight, thanks to their hard work, the world kept spinning just fine. A few hiccups here and there, but no tech apocalypse! #Y2KSuccess 💡 The Y2K saga wasn’t just about a bug; it was a lesson in foresight, preparation, and the resilience of the tech community. Exploring Diversity in Tech at Bletchley Park   🎉Stepping into the hallowed grounds of Bletchley Park, you are immediately immersed in the rich history of technological innovation and wartime espionage. Yet, beyond the captivating tales of codebreaking and cryptography lies a deeper narrative, one that resonates with the ongoing discussion surrounding diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. 🫶Today, I was absolutely privileged to not only explore this historic site but join Tech Talent Charter's Roadshow to discuss the latest data and insights from the #diversityintech report focusing on #womenintech , #socialmobility #neurodiversity in Tech. Some of the facts that stood out to me......   💜 Only 29% of UK tech employees are women/non-binary 💜 Just 20% of UK software engineers are women/non-binary 💜 Only 9% of the tech workforce are from lower socio-economic backgrounds 💜 3% of tech employees have disclosed they are neurodivergent but when you ask them, 53% say they are. A significant difference. 🗝️In addition, women remain vastly under-represented in tech leadership, with only 21% of senior tech roles are held by women. And whilst I am proud to say that Lloyds Banking Group are exceeding that in our senior tech, data and security roles the conversation at Bletchley highlighted that there is still a long way to go and we can't afford to become complacent. 🤝As always it was very energising and motivating to meet passionate and likeminded individuals from across a number of different organisations to discuss the progress, challenges and opportunities to improve inclusion in tech. 🔎Take aways - Read the Diversity in Tech report and stay informed on what's happening - Role Models Matter, Create safe and bold spaces to let people be themselves and share their stories - Without accurate data, we can't tell if we are doing the right things to support under-represented groups and attract diverse talent - As well as building long-term roadmaps for our products, lets also build them for our people 🏫Throughout Bletchley Park, it's impossible not to marvel at the brilliance of the individuals who worked tirelessly to crack the Enigma code during WWII. Among these codebreakers were not only mathematicians and linguists but also individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Women played a crucial role in the operations, serving as code breakers, analysts and operators. 🙋🏻♀️ Personally, it served as a reminder of the untapped potential within the tech industry today. Let’s take a little stroll down memory lane, reflecting on my tech journey so far is like flipping through a photo album of all those epic moments that have shaped me into the cyber savvy charmer I am today. Starting out, I was just another dreamer with a laptop and a heap of curiosity. But oh, how things have changed. Each project, each problem solved, and each line of code has been a step toward mastering this digital dance. From fumbling through basic scripts to navigating complex security protocols, the growth has been nothing short of spectacular. I’ve had my share of late nights troubleshooting systems, moments where the only light was the glow of my monitor (and my bright ideas, of course). And let’s not forget the triumphant highs of cracking a tough code or thwarting a simulated cyber attack. These moments weren’t just about solving problems, they were about discovering my passion for technology and realizing the power of persistence. Now, let’s talk about the real MVPs, those fabulous folks who’ve made this journey sweeter and oh-so rewarding. First up, a massive shout out to my mentors, those brilliant minds who never tired of my endless questions and always pushed me to dig deeper. Whether it was a nudge in the right direction or a full-blown tutorial, their guidance was the secret sauce to my success. To my peers and project buddies, what a ride Collaborating with you was like forming our own little tech avengers team. Each one of you brought something unique to the table, and together, we tackled challenges that seemed insurmountable. I am endlessly grateful for every hackathon, every group study session, and yes, even those heated debates over the best coding practices. And how can I forget the online community? From forums to webinars, the wisdom shared by strangers around the globe has been invaluable. You showed me that the tech world is not just about competition but about collaboration and support. As I continue on this tech-laden journey, I carry with me not just the skills and knowledge I’ve amassed, but the relationships and memories too. I’m pumped for what’s next and ready to give back to this community that has given me so much. So here’s to more growth, more challenges, and more moments of tech triumph. Avertro's annual team offsite and kick-off was held last week. We missed the team members that couldn't attend for logistical reasons, but for those that did, much work was done, and lots of fun was had. We're mostly a remote team, but nothing can replace the bonds formed in-person. A significant amount of time was spent on education for the team, particularly in areas some don't have to deal with in their day-to-day. We also had the privilege of having multiple world-class CISOs (including Kevin Tham, who publicly disclosed his involvement, so I'll tag him 😃) talk about why and how they do what they do, which is better than anything one could learn in a classroom. From a solution standpoint, expect lots of new capabilities in #CyberHQ Enterprise, as well as the launch of something new very soon (hint: look out for the 🐲). For fun, there was lots of food, a birthday cake (and singing), Jenga (including that feat you may have already seen performed in a previous post by #JengaSuperstar Farrell Tirtadinata), an escape room or two, an impromptu LAN party, and lots of time hanging out talking about non-work-related stuff. Here's to an awesome 2024 for our customers, partners, investors, and team!
