Join us for 'Law Review With You 🫵,' featuring Joanna Schwartz, professor of law & faculty director of the UCLA Law David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law & Policy at UCLA Law. Here, Prof. Schwartz breaks down the challenges of holding cities accountable for law enforcement officers' actions, which is the topic of her law review article, 'Municipal Immunity,' published in the Virginia Law Review. "If an officer has violated your constitutional rights, you can't automatically sue the employer, the city, that gave them their badges and guns. Instead, you have to show that the city had a policy, a practice, or a custom that caused the constitutional violation to occur," she explains. Ready to dig deeper? 👉 Watch below to learn more! 👉 Read 'Municipal Immunity' here: https://lnkd.in/gaarYZfJ 👉 Read her book, 'Shielded: How the Police Became Untouchable': https://lnkd.in/g4XCMb6d 👉 Stay tuned for part 2!

Always enjoy making a guest appearance at Pace Law for Prof. Louis Fasulo on topics in trial advocacy - today we discussed witness examinations. Here's my Top 5 takeaways for presenting effective direct exams: 1. Understand your case theory/theme and how this witness fits in; 2. Work backwards from what you hope to argue in closing to create the objectives/bullets for the witness' direct exam; 3. Incorporate using exhibits and refreshing recollection into your witness prep; 4. Craft a narrowly-tailored, easily digestible Q&A presentation to meet your objectives/bullets; and 5. Assess the witness' warts/baggage - to prep them for XEX and possibly take the sting out.
