!!Paediatric teams!! We’ve got a new collection of Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) Advice and Guidance (A&G) templates to support you to transform and improve outpatient services... Clinicians from both primary and secondary care were involved in shaping our A&G toolkit, to ensure the templates are helpful to both the specialists using them and the GPs receiving them. Adaptable template responses are included for 20 common CYP conditions – including abdominal pain, undescended testes and faltering growth – and allow for a personalised response which is specific and targeted to the patient and their family, with the most important information clearly highlighted. The aim is to improve the timeliness and quality of responses back to GPs, in turn empowering families through shared decision-making, while minimising unnecessary and inefficient outpatient activity. This week's case study demonstrates how #LarvalTherapy can be an incredibly effective option to consider in early stages of treatment, where a wound is rapidly deteriorating and amputation is a very real possibility. 👉🏻 https://loom.ly/4Ylb13k __________________________________________________________________ The patient had a history of diabetes, and presented with a foot ulcer. Initially treatment commenced via conventional dressings, but the patient's condition worsened, and partial or full amputation of the toes and foot became a possibility. Clinicians acted quickly, and Larval Therapy was instigated to try and prevent amputation from occurring. To read about the wound progression, and final outcome. Founder, Enhanced Recovery After Delivery™ Women’s health leadership and media consultant expanding equitable access to rehabilitation
What can a rehab therapist teach students in a Masters of Public Health program about maternal care? On October 9th, an audience at the University of New Mexico will learn about acute care therapists who are taking a public health approach to maternal care across 59 hospitals in the United States. These therapists are challenging disparities in rehab and are offering OT and PT to patients after unplanned c-section - similar to populations after other emergent or elective surgeries which have a higher association with hemorrhage, infection, and hypertensive disorders. Their public health aim is to reduce maternal morbidity related to physical and mental health concerns in populations who are not typically offered a rehab care plan in the hospital after birth. Their maternal rehab approach: screen mental and physical function in the setting of social determinants of health after any birth experience before mothers from diverse backgrounds leave the healthcare system. It’s the most effective public health approach to evidence-based care and best practice in maternal rehab that we have seen in women’s healthcare. To join live, access the lecture here: Zoom Details: https://lnkd.in/gKkd_nrU Meeting ID: 942 3775 9160 Note: The University of New Mexico owns the rights to the recording. Efficient healthcare relies on patient access to a medical home where all three aspects of health care needs (preventative, acute and chronic care) can be met in a coordinated and patient-centered manner. Primary care providers uniquely fulfill that need. Changes to health care financing to focus on incentivizing trainees to become primary care physicians and making careers in primary care sustainable are long overdue. The significant increase in unfilled pediatric residency positions in this years match only adds more urgency to fix the structural problems underlying the workforce pipeline.
Thank you to Priyanka Dayal McCluskey at WBUR for getting the word out about how challenging it is to access primary care in Massachusetts. https://lnkd.in/eYefj25F #primary care, #primary care access #primary care physicians
