“Whether you’re eight or eighty, you want your world to work for you.” This quote from the “Unlimited by Design” exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York encapsulates the spirit of universal design. The same conditions for everyone, no matter their age, rather than special solutions for the select few. But what is behind the term “universal design”? How does the approach, which is at once both #innovative and universal, address the challenges of demographic change? Read more at https://lnkd.in/g4NCaG_q

In the spirit of “sharpening the saw”, I participated in a Design Thinking DC field session for the National Museum of American History this week. Question: How might we create a more inviting and engaging Constitution Ave entrance? So great to flex my DT muscles IRL with creative designers! #designthinking #smithsonian #creativity #brainstorming #prototyping
What a thrill for our DT:DC community to partner with the amazing Mike Denison, Head of Design for the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History, to reimagine the Constitution Avenue entrance of the museum to make it a more inviting, connected, and inclusive public space. A big thank you to our brilliant workshop leaders, Evan Chan and Fabiola Alvarez Yurcisin who spent hours preparing an insightful and inspiring experience and to Caitlin Anderson for managing all the details. The energy and creativity of the group was contagious. Here's a glimpse of what we achieved: 🔹 Fresh, innovative ideas to enhance the visitor experience 🔹 Collaborative designs that reflect the museum's rich heritage 🔹 A renewed sense of community and shared vision Finally, a huge shoutout to everyone who participated and contributed their unique perspectives. #DesignThinking #Innovation #MuseumDesign #Smithsonian #Collaboration #Creativity

The most compelling exhibits not only offer insights into the past or information about the world around us — they include a glimpse into the future, inspiration, and takeaway messages that shape the worldview of those who visit. This is a powerful thing — the power to shape solutions for the future. The forward-looking aspect of exhibits is essential in fostering a sense of responsibility and agency among visitors. By prompting reflection on the future implications of the content, exhibits can empower individuals to contribute positively to their communities and the world at large. Through thoughtful presentation and incorporation of takeaway messages, our collaborative approach ensures that exhibits not only inform and engage but also inspire action and change for a better tomorrow. Early on in the exhibit design process, we encourage our clients to consider the takeaway messages they want visitors to walk away with. How will your next exhibit shape the future? 📷 Conceptual designs we created for the National Building Museum #designingforsolutions #exhibitdesign #exhibitiondesign #exhibitiondesigners #exhibitdesigners

Have you ever been on a museum tour and just felt overwhelmed with all the information being presented? The Nieuwe Institute in Rotterdam has come up with an intriguing solution that reimages the museum tour. They have transformed their traditional tours into more engaging experiences through the use of what they call "Detour Guides". These guides, often creatives such as DJs, graphic designers, architects, storytellers, and performers, are empowered to share their unique perspectives with museum visitors. We love how this concept is redefining the way information about the museum is presented, bringing in different experiences and perspectives. #NewVisitors #VisitorExperience #TrendsInMuseums #EngagingAudiences #TheNetherlands #therevelsoffice #cultureisacatalyst #culture #culturalorganisations #galleries #businesschallenges #audiences #strategy #partnerships #transformassets #newrevenuestreams #visitorattraction #experiencestrategy #revitaliseartts #collaborate

Funded by Creative Europe, this groundbreaking project takes a giant leap toward the realization of the Experimenta Paisagem Museum—a unique concept of an open-air museum without walls. Landscape Together is not just an art project; it's a celebration of creativity seamlessly blending with the natural beauty of our surroundings. Imagine art installations in harmony with the landscape, creating an immersive experience for everyone. This project is a cornerstone of Experimenta Paisagem, a collaborative platform for territorial development. The ultimate goal? The creation of a museum accessible to all, rooted in democratic principles and the active participation of local communities. Picture an open-air museum where art is not confined by traditional boundaries. The Experimenta Paisagem Museum is designed to be a space for freedom, creativity, and inclusivity—a museum that transcends physical walls and welcomes everyone with open arms. At the heart of this initiative is the belief that art should be accessible to all. By involving local communities in the creative process, we aim to foster a sense of ownership and pride in the shared cultural heritage. Let's shape a museum where creativity knows no bounds, and nature is the canvas! Join us on this incredible journey as we unfold the possibilities of art, nature, and community coming together Photo Credentials: LT Launch_©MAG-Marques_de_Aguiar #LandscapeTogether #ExperimentaPaisagem #ArtMeetsNature #CreativeEurope

Have you ever wanted to do things differently? Working with our LAB partners at The Peale, we helped produce a small-scale exhibit that has room to grow and evolve. "Moses Williams: Cutter of Profiles" is an iterative presentation that actually invites visitors to comment on its design, text, and presentation. Sticky notes—with visitor comments—share the walls with small text panels. We think this approach allows museums to truly hear from their communities. Test out the exhibit if you're in the Baltimore area! https://lnkd.in/e4jegD6K #designthinking #agileprojectmanagement

With the distinctive new building of the EYE Film Museum, the north of Amsterdam, near the city centre, is experiencing a welcome revival thanks to a throng of visitors. The futuristic structure is illuminated according to a simple principle. Four in-ground luminaires supply the light for the large inclined area, and the side parts of the building are illuminated with floodlights from a mounting height of 10 m, cautiously underlining the character-shaping form elements of the building.
