Ransomware Attack on Change Healthcare The recent ransomware attack on Change Healthcare has sent shockwaves through the healthcare industry, with far-reaching consequences for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and millions of patients nationwide. This February 2024 attack disrupted critical VA operations, causing delays in prescription processing, invoice payments, and community care programs. The VA is still grappling with the fallout, expecting some services to return to normal as late as February 2025. Key points: 1 million delayed prescription claims 6 million delayed invoices Widespread disruption to hospital operations across the country In response, the VA has intensified its cybersecurity efforts. They've implemented more rigorous and frequent training for personnel, including unannounced phishing tests.
