Join us in getting to know Emma, a #TeamCHS Allied Health Clinical Lead on the Acute Medical Unit. Emma is the team leader for an array of vital health care disciplines, including physiotherapy, social work, occupational therapy, dietetics, and speech pathology. ‘My role is to ensure patients are also considered from a functional and emotional perspective so they can safely continue their recovery once they leave the hospital.’ From the moment a decision is made for a patient to leave the hospital, Emma's role kicks into high gear. She and her team play an important role in ensuring that these patients can safely continue their recovery once they step outside the hospital's doors. They're not just interested in the health care side of things; they want to know how patients are feeling at home. How's their mobility? How's their diet? Are they able to take care of themselves? Emma's team goes the extra mile to ensure patients are set up for success. ‘It’s important that we gather all this information, we need to really know the patient so we can craft a tailored plan that suits their specific requirements. It's like giving patients a customized set of recommendations for their health care journey, ensuring they can seamlessly integrate their recovery into their daily lives.’ What advice does Emma have for her fellow team members to expedite patient discharge and contribute to the success of the process? ‘Sometimes, a fresh perspective can lead to innovative approaches that benefit the patient's journey.’ Emma's role is a crucial piece of the puzzle in patient care. By coordinating allied health services, she ensures that the patient's experience is as seamless and effective as possible. ‘Communication is key, the more the team shares their impressions and assessments, the better the coordination and outcomes for the patient.’ In health care, every piece matters, and Emma makes sure they all fit together perfectly. #PatientRecovery #AlliedHealth #TeamWork #TeamCHS #SafeDischarge #PatientSupport #HospitalJourney

➡ "Healthcare workers should consider not only the physical symptoms of the illness but also the social, psychological, and environmental factors that may impact the patient’s health... [they] can develop comprehensive care plans that align with their overall well-being and lifestyle by addressing the whole patient." ⬅ Cross-functional collaboration is at the core of what we do at IMSMP! Having award-winning neurologists, a naturopathic MD, dietician, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, and a top-notch nursing staff under the same roof means we can treat the WHOLE person 👏 #holisticapproach #multiplesclerosis #patientcenteredcare #crossfunctionalcollaborations #ms https://lnkd.in/gqBTYDYq

Factors Associated With Healthcare Clinician Stress and Resilience: A Scoping Review Congratulations to Timothy Usset, R. Greg Stratton, PhD, Sarah Knapp, Sunil K Y., Benjamin Schaefer, George Fitchett, and co-authors on their publication in the Journal of Healthcare Management! https://lnkd.in/gatQVKVK "Principal Findings: We found that organizational factors, learning/practice environment, and healthcare responsibilities were three of the top four factors identified in the reviews as contributing to clinician distress. Learning/practice environment and organizational factors were two of the top four factors identified in the reviews as contributing to their resilience. Practical Applications: Clinicians continue to face numerous external challenges that complicate their work. Further research, practice, and policy changes are indicated to improve practice environments for healthcare clinicians. Healthcare leaders need to promote resources for organizational and system-level changes to improve clinician well-being." #resilience #resiliency #healthcare #clinician

As a retired chaplain, I get disgruntled when I get calls with this concern: “I wanted to volunteer with Compassus Hospice, but they don’t have a volunteer coordinator now so the chaplain has to take it over and she’s too busy to organize a new training session. So, I cannot start. Should I wait or go someplace else?” Sigh. TowerBrook Capital and Ascension Healthcare System joined forces to buy Compassus Hospice for $1 billion dollars in 2019 and you can compare them to a multi . . . multi . . . multi-millionaire gentleman walking down the street with money hemorrhaging from his bulging pockets. What might the priorities be in his sphere of financial and moral influence? I’ve also heard hospice professionals publicly propose delegating the grief counseling from the intensity and stress of hospice and healthcare work from their employees onto the desks of their own chaplains. I would propose that medical and hospice providers hire an independent counseling professional to provide that care for the entire staff—including the chaplains. But that does cost money; and, if financially-engorged hospice corporations owned by professional investors choose not to hire a volunteer coordinator in a timely fashion (which is a Medicare mandate for all of their hospices), they are not going to hire an outside coordinator for staff mental health and wellness. Their investors are waiting for a return on their investment. To suggest that hospice or hospital chaplains can absorb that extra work shows a lack of understanding for the demands of that all-encompassing role. One chaplain handles the spiritual work for about fifty dying patients per week and the bereavement of their families until the patient dies. During my tenure, I counseled my colleagues, designed and performed funeral services, prepared eulogies, performed sacramental rites, met with prospective families, spent two weekends a month on-call, provided music therapy, and prayed with patients over scriptures. “And now you’re going to transfer the volunteer program to me?” Two full-time jobs? Talk about clinician stress. Incidentally, that caller is now volunteering for two different nonprofit hospices. I suggested providers where my family members had died or I where I knew the clinicians. Great volunteer coordinators. Word-of-mouth is the ideal way to locate a great provider. Please email me the names of other nonprofits or independent, community-oriented for-profit hospices in the Milwaukee and Waukesha County areas with which you have had wonderful experiences and that do not implement financially-motivated hospice policies at the expense of patient care. Read my book to know how to tell the difference. (maryclairetorinus@gmail.com). Have you ever noticed that two people can have completely different interpretations of the same thing? Perception is a complex process that involves a combination of sensory input and our own experiences and expectations. In the workplace, these differences in perception can lead to misunderstandings. To ensure effective communication and collaboration, it's important to keep an open mind and actively listen to others' perspectives. This is especially important in fields like healthcare, where different perspectives from doctors, nurses, and pharmacists can lead to better patient care. So, before changing an order, take a moment to understand the "why" behind it and collaborate with your colleagues. Let's work together to bridge the gap in perception and foster a more productive and collaborative workforce. #WorldNeedsMoreRTs National Board for Respiratory Care - NBRC #NBRCAmbassador #perspective
