When attending Virtual Career Fairs, there are some simple Dos and Don'ts that will make your experience better when engaging with recruiters. Here are 2 examples... Don't: Useless Jabber! Some platforms have a time limit. Brazen for example, gives us 10 minutes per person. Keep this in mind when you are engaging. Do not waste half of your time with chit-chat. Do: Browse the career sites before attending, so YOU can maximize YOUR time with that rep instead of wasting 5 minutes saying hello. Most Large companies have hundreds or even thousands of open position advertised. Fortune 500 company recruiters rarely have ALL positions memorized, for example. Come into the room at least knowing what you want to do and have some posted roles to discuss. That is how you get help. Having an actionable request from you for a specific position for us to act upon. I frequently witness applicants waste valuable time chit-chatting vs getting to the facts.

First recruiting fair of the season done! ✔️ Career fairs can be daunting, but here’s a few tips to help your day go more smoothly: 1. 𝗛𝗶𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆: colleges usually will stop lines 30 minutes before career fairs end so you don’t want to leave your favorite employer last 2. 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀: this can feel like a security blanket but often makes it harder for recruiters to individually understand your skills 3. 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝟱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁: it’s a very different conversation if you kick off with an ice breaker as opposed to dicing straight in to your elevator pitch Above all, remember recruiters are excited to meet you!
